The seventy-nine year-old Chuan-Tong Ma, fourteen years ago, after he’d retired from the Taiwan Railways Administration started swimming, he’d swum across the Sun-Moon Lake for twelve consecutive years to date, and he was also, the oldest competitor of the swim meet yesterday in Changhwa; he was able to improve on his physical health conditions from swimming, and was the top ten swimmers of the elderly competitors too.
The eldest competitor was, Chuan-Tong Ma, at age seventy-nine. He originally worked as the sectional electric engineer of the Taiwan Railway system, as he’d retired at age sixty-five he was overcome with a ton of physical ailments and illnesses, so he’d started swimming in the mornings. And learned the various strokes, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly from watching the competitions and the tapes, along with consulting the expert swimmers.
Ma said, that keeping up with the good habits of exercising regularly, it’d kept his body at maximum performance, that there’s a low chance of getting sports injuries in swimming, he strongly recommends, that more people take it up. The very first time he’d swum across the Sun-Moon Lake, he’d practiced by pulling on the weights, to gain more stamina, he’d been continuing the races for twelve years to date; and each and every year, he’d competed in the age swimming competitions, and had won the top ten places in the past years.
So, this elderly man kept himself healthy, by taking up a sport, in this case, it’s swimming, and, because he set his mind to learn to swim, he’d not needed any swim coaches to teach him how to swim using the various strokes, he’d researched the strokes on his own, and taught himself how to swim. That just shows, that it’s never too late to start something, and that by exercising regularly, you can also, stay healthy as you age too.
