I’d seen her, with a Yueqing in her arms, going around and about, performing, it’d, impressed me deeply.
With a long head of hair, after college, she’d joined in with a group of her fellow music lovers, sang in a choir, and met regularly to practice their music skills together. Other than having a beautiful voice, she’d especially loved the musical instruments too, piano, the recorder, as well as the yueqing, she’d become very good in; she’d especially, loved the yueqing, and, her, holding the yueqing in her arms, became her identifier too.
This music loving girl has a very romantic name—Zi-Yen, and, all of us, coworkers, called her, “Zi”, she is the music teacher at our school, started a recorder club, and would instruct the students and entered them into competitions, and her students had, won first prize again and again, and, in the individual competitions, the students would take home the trophies for the first three places too, and she had certificates of achievements, plastered across her office walls, and, all the students, the teachers at the school, are all very, proud of her.
The choir that Zi was singing in often got invited to perform, like how her alma mater high school every year on the school’s birthday, would ask her and her fellow graduates to return to school to perform, they’d gained the accolades from the lower classmates; and from time to time, when there are celebrations of the county, the group would get invited to perform too. And what’s more was, they’d always gone to hospitals, to perform for those who were diagnosed with rare conditions or terminal illnesses, using their beautiful music, to soothe the hearts of the patients, as well as their families, to give the patients that needed boost, to fight off their conditions.
And on top of that, Zi would also go to orphanages on her spare time, to teach the children how to sing too.
And whenever there’s any function at the school, Zi would always head on stage to perform, sometimes, she’d just played the piano, and at others, she’d sung along, like the Taiwanese tune, “Dad’s Kite”, and the Chinese song, “The Moon Carried My Heart”, are her two most favorite songs to sing. “Dad told me, to set a kite off…the wind blew, the kite flew, across my childish dreams………” “you asked me how deep is the love I have for you, how much I loved you………”, her voice is elegant and sweet, intoxicated all her listeners.
Zi used her music, to touch the hearts and souls of people, she’d given us joys, brought that warmth to the children who were poor and patients who were ill, I want to, give her an applause for her good heart!
So we have here, a woman who’d used what she has, and brought joys to others’ lives, and, she doesn’t donate any money, or anything material, just puts in the time, to entertain those around her, and that just shows, that you don’t need to spend a single cent, and you can still make a different in the lives of others, to bring joys into their lives.
