Observing what’s happened, translated…
This August, fifteen Formosan rock monkeys died in the span of just one week in Kaohsiung, reason being that they were, poisoned by rat poisons, and the culprit was, humans; and, that family of monkeys that once took over the entrance of the hiking trail had, vanished.
As many people saw this news, how many had felt awful, and were reminded that this, is the year of the monkey right now? I kept feeling, that the signs of the Chinese zodiac are something interesting, in the ancient times, when humans had limited knowledge, couldn’t know the differences of the years, and the ruler of heaven decided to have a race of animals to cross the rivers, and took in the first twelve that arrived to the other side, as the twelve signs of the zodiac, to set up the age systems that we use. This story we’d heard since we were young, gave us stereotypes of the animals, the kind ox took the rat on its back, and gotten second place; the dragon was busy, making the rain happen, it’d, come lately; the lazy hog overslept, ended last, in twelfth place; and the cat missed the competition, because the rat didn’t wake him up, and ever since, the cats started, catching the rats.
look at this face, and tell me you don’t feel something, not my photograph…
The monkey didn’t have too much of a storyline, and, as we talked of monkeys, we’re all reminded of the Monkey King in Journey to the West, very intelligent and active, but, fallen into human’s control.
And, this is even more so in reality. The monkeys here would fight over the foods, because they were, handfed; they’d wreaked havoc in the fruit farms, because the fruit farms were located, right there, in the mountains, where they lived; as humans made their passes into the mountains, set up those hiking trails, and enjoyed their leisure time in nature, or, put up the barbed wires around the fruit plantations, forgotten how, this place was originally, the habitat of other living creatures, and who had been, the real intruders.
and this, is how they’re treated by us…
Humans feared, that the rice plants they’d just set down gets taken by the birds, so, they’d started, poisoning the birds; humans hated snakes, and killed all they see; and, because humans can’t control other humans in the feeding of the Formosan rock monkeys, they’d wanted to, poison, and kill the monkeys too; disregarding how we are the ones, who’d deserted our pets, we’d wanted to, catch the stray dogs and cats and turn them into the pounds, and, we’d not thought hard about how humans were the ones who destroyed the habitats of birds, we’d wanted to, poison the bird populations; and, in order to resolve the problems of the traffic congestion during the bird watching seasons, they’d decided to pass the law to set up four separate passages into the place (although the population of black-faced spoonbills had reached five percent of the whole world).
When people had, lost assets, food source, the feel of life, were threatened, shocked, displeased, then, the lives of other creatures were, taken.
Humans loved saying, aren’t humans worthy as lower order of living organisms? From the stray cats and dogs, getting turned out onto the streets due to crowding in the animal shelters, or the wild animals that were poisoned to death, or, how someone got angry after an argument with a loved one, then, turned their angers toward their pets; in an instant of negligence, over a hundred birds, two cats, and three dogs were, suffocated to death in the cargo containers of the international airport; helping to fertilize the pandas at the zoo……………when did our dignities pale by comparisons to the animals? It’d always been our hearts, that were worse, than the animals’.
There’s no certain creature, for the sake of happiness of humans, deserved to live on torturously, to keep on living in their diminished habitats, and even, to the point, of becoming, extinct; there’s no happiness of any certain living organisms that should be built upon another living organism’s pains, and, based off of what we’d encountered so far, and will keep on encountering in this world of ours, we should have more doubts, more questions, to find that better way, so we can all, coexist in peace, on this land.
For humans, the instincts of animals were filled with malice, it’s just, how do you think that the animals perceived our actions? They can only, exist, best as they can, in Taiwan.
So, this, paints a very gloomy picture, doesn’t it? There were, so many animals that were slaughtered, for NO valid reasons (and because they’re attacking the fruit farms we owned is still NOT a valid enough reason!), because humans ARE selfish, and, we still pride ourselves, on being animal rights activists? Take a look around you, do you even KNOW how many pets get put to death on a day? And, do you NOT know, that those already strayed dogs or cats once had a good home, until the owners got tired of having them around, then, gave them the B-O-O-T?
