It happens, translated…
With the onset of the online age, most websites required you to register, then, you’re allowed to have the services provided to you. And, the passcodes went from the former four-digit to eight now, to the current of alphabet-numeric combos, and some even specified that you’d needed at least, one symbol too. In the more careful systems, it’d tell you about how safe your passwords are, or advise the users to not use one’s own birthdays, phone numbers, along with how long you’ll have to change it. And, without ourselves knowing it, one single account had, “produced” a huge number of passwords, and, forgetting what those passwords are became, a matter-of-fact.
A few days ago, I’d attempted to, log into an account I’d completely forgotten about, and, finally I’d gotten the right user name, I just can’t, seemed to guess the passwords right, and, I was, banned from the website for five minutes, and so, I can only, turn to the password recovery forms, and input my personal information, so the system can look it up for me.
These steps, I’m sure, you’re, very familiar with, but even if it’s the same steps, every website has a different way of handling it. Some would just, hand you your forgotten password to you, on that silver platter, some would take that sharp turn, and mail it to your e-mail box, and the worst kind is the one that gave you the secret questions you’d set up long ago, and, I’d encountered, the last of these, unfortunately, after a few seconds’ worth of getting transferred from the websites, these words showed: you deserve to get shot for forgetting. These words I’d stated, became, the only clue I’d left for myself back then.
Holy! Tell me, what is it, that would make me deserving of getting shot if I forgot? Why would I set this as a reminder for my password? Or maybe, it was, the me back then, you’d set up this lousy “tip” as a reminder who’s deserving of getting shot! In my shock, I’d completely been, defeated, by the me in the past.
And, I can’t believe, that my older sister too, had this sort of experience, of getting set up by herself as well. My older sister believed, that it was, useless, to need to set up the tips for password recovery, and so, she’d put, “boring”, “it’s that”. And, as you would imagine, the result was, she, screaming so loud at her computer, “It’s like that? What? I really don’t, remember………”
Living in the digital age, there are, so many passwords being used at a single time, it’d become, very, complicated, I have a friend who’d used the golden ratio of 1.681 as his password, and he managed to remember the digits to ten places after the decimal point, and so, he was able to, strike one number down as he’d needed to (he could also pretend, that he’s got, great number sense too). But, most of my friend still chose to set up a Word file, to keep track of ALL their passwords. And, they’d admitted that there might be security issues in so doing, but, thinking about it, the number of times their information leaked out, is, WAY less than the number of times they’d forgotten about their own passwords, it’d made them wanted to, “hack” themselves.
And yet, if there’s another friend—he couldn’t even recall the password he’d used, to open up the file he’d needed, then, he’s, totally, screwed.
So, this, is when “for the sake of your security” became a total inconvenience to you, I mean, who can remember the passwords that s/he set up, over a decade ago, on that account that you’re no longer, actively using, right? And yet, once in a blue moon, you’ll try to log back in, and, that, is when you’re, totally screwed, and, if you can’t even remember your own passwords, then, how the HELL are you supposed to remember, all the answers you’d put down, for all those security questions, over ages ago, huh???
