There was a residential fire in Yenping N. Road, Section 5 early in the morning yesterday, the couple in their eighties were found, burned to death, in their add-on rooftop home; the son of the deceased who lived downstairs had wanted to put out the blazes with the fire extinguisher, but it’d, malfunctioned, and can only watch, as his elderly parents get burned alive. The preliminary investigation results showed that the cause of the fire was the wire from the refrigerator catching fire, but further investigation will be needed to determine the precise cause of the fire.
The son of the deceased couple said in a heart wrenching tone, that he’d heard his parents hollered out for help in his sleep, he’d run to the first floor, grabbed the fire extinguisher to try to put out the flames, but, the fire extinguisher malfunctioned, he suspected that the public fire extinguisher had something wrong with it. The Fire Department stated, that the fire extinguishers in the stairways are still within the expiry dates, that the man in charge of the borough had, replaced the powder inside back in June, as to why it’d malfunctioned, the man in charge of the borough had already notified the manufacturer, and sent the fire extinguisher to the shop to examine.
The Taipei Fire Department received the call at around three in the morning yesterday, as they’d arrived, the firefighters saw smoke coming from the fourth floor residence; it took the firefighters only twenty minutes to put out the flames but the eighty-four year-old couple, Hsieh were asleep, and couldn’t make it out in time, as the paramedics rushed to them, they were already found with serious burns, and were both unconscious, and although they were lifted to the emergency room at Shin-Guan Hospital, they still died.
Based off of understanding, the married elderly couple, because they were both immobile, rarely went outside, they lived in the add-on fourth floor steel roof shack, were taken care of by their loved ones, their three grandchildren lived on the third floor, the third son and daughter-in-law, the second floor, both are retired, and the eldest and second son both worked away from home, their lives were simple.
So, tragedy strike, in this apartment complex, because the residence is quite old, and the fire extinguisher malfunctioned, the elderly parents were killed in a fire, and, before they know exactly how the fire got started, this case will not be resolved.
