Deaths, by accident, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
In the midnight hours of yesterday, four college male students went to Daping Creek to fish, as two of them walked forward leaning on the side of the mountains, they’d missed a step and as their companion who was a little over a meter away came to their rescues, he was dragged down under, the three of them were drowned.
The man in charge of the village, Wen said, that the upstream in the cold springs had drowning accidents before, and the place where the three college males drowned had never had any accidents; the water in the region was clear, with the fishes and shrimps, that it may have been the temperature dropping in the nights, that may have caused the deaths.
“Although the water’s shallow, there are, dangers underneath the waters, and the locals wouldn’t tread there, especially when the water temperature was no more than forty or fifty degrees Fahrenheit………”, the local residents told.

At around two in the morning, the rescue command center in Hsinchu received a call, said that someone was catching the fishes and shrimps and had drowned; the fire department quickly rushed on site, and in the darkened surfaces of the streams, they couldn’t see anyone, about half an hour into the search, they’d found Weng (age 23), Yu (age 23), Lo (age 24, Malaysian descent)’s bodies.
“I’d heard someone hollering, I’d turned my head, and saw them drown”, the junior from Dahwa Technical University, Chang said, back then, all four of them were walking along the stream, he was closer to the shallower side, the other three were, leaning on the mountains, and the water got to their waists; when he’d heard them hollered, he’d turned around, and already lost sight of Weng already.
He said, after Weng went under, Yu who was leaning on Weng’s arms lifted both hands up over the waters, struggling and screaming, and, Lo a classmate who was several meters away came to his rescue, and that, was when Chang realized, that his friend was drowning, and left to get help.
The local fire department stated, that Chang pointed to the precise location where the three were drowning, the firefighters put on their diving gears, went under, and soon enough, they’d discovered the three other students, at the bottom of the creek; and because the place where the drowning occurred was about two meters deep, and the rest of the areas, the water got up to the waists, they’d suspected that the students were walking along the shore side, and missed a step, and slipped and fell.

The police investigated and found, that Chang and Weng who died in the drowning were both juniors from Dahwa Technical Univeristy, Yu, the other college student was a local, the son of the famous Deng-Nan Memorial Museum’s curator; there were, the fishing gears of the college students, left on the shores, the headlights, the flashlights too, with a full case of fishes and shrimps that they’d caught, the fire department confirmed, that they’d died, in a fishing drowning accident.
Wen’s parents heard the news and they’d rushed to the site, toward the sudden death of their son, they’d started, wailing right at the scene, “We can’t understand, how, he is now, gone”.

So, because it’s the summertime, there would be, more and more, and more of these sorts of drowning accidents, because the younger generations just aren’t keen on following the rules, plus, the beaches or the community swimming pools would be, jam-packed, and, this sort of a secluded spot is more than appealing, but it’s, dangerous, because there’s no certified lifeguard, and it’s an area, without safety supervision either!
