A Father Printed Out Counterfeits to Pay for His Son’s School Tuition, Got a Lighter Sentence

From the Front Page Sections, translated…

An unemployed skilled worker had counterfeited nearly $30,000N.T. was prosecuted, the Kaohsiung District Court found that he was ill and had been unemployed for six years, and because he was overcome with economic difficulties, and couldn’t get enough money for his son’s school tuition and rent, which was why he’d done what he did; the Collective Courts sympathized with him, and thought, that the lightest sentence of five years would be too harsh, and based off of his situations, they’d reduced the prison terms to three years four months.

The verdict pointed out, that Huang (age 45) was once a plumber/electrician, but because he had coronary diseases, hyperthyroidism, and hypertension, which caused him to lose his job, he’d not had any tax records for the past six years, last year and two more times at the start of this year, he’d needed to make the money for his child’s tuition and rent, he’d run out of money since, and was suspected of printing his own counterfeit last September and this past January using the color printer, craft’s knife, duct tape, recycled paper, as well as some paints too.

And although, the looks of the counterfeit are very similar to the real currency, but the paper was thicker, and the numbers didn’t have the color-changing anti-counterfeit properties, and it’s easy to tell that the bills were fake.  Last year, he’d taken a five-hundred dollar counterfeit to a shop and was found, this January, he’d taken the counterfeit to buy the groceries and was found by the police, and they’d confiscated $12,000N.T. in counterfeit from him.

The Collectivist Courts investigated and found, that because of his ailments, Huang was out of a job for six whole years, that he’d lived in a rental home with his underage son, and the time period of him printing out the counterfeits coincides with the time his son needed to pay for his tuition at school, and, that the counterfeits were used to buy daily living supplies, that there was, hardship he was facing in life, so the judge gave him a reduced sentence.

with the watermarks…

And so, this, is the result of when life was too hard, driving this man to commit this crime, and the judge sympathized with his condition, and gave him a lighter sentence, because he only made the counterfeits so he could pay for his daily living needs, as well as paying for his son’s school tuition.
