Damn STRAIGHT, and, the teachers believe that the child who’s bouncing UP and DOWN, can’t concentrate in class, is the one with the problem??? Written by a doctor of family medicine, translated…
I’d always felt, that humans are, the most presumptuous of all species. Why? Because other than the usual labels, and aside, from all the wonderful names one call oneself, we kept seeing how humans, breaking a ton of the rules in nature constantly.
Think about it, from the moment when children were born, to preschool, to kindergarten, elementary years, middle school……don’t we all just not sit still, and not knowing what fatigue was? But, we’d felt the need to, make these children who are really active to, sit still, to stop talking incessantly; until when we’re older, and no longer compelled to move around too much, the younger generations then, urged the elderly to head out, to move around more, to exercise more.
Humans were natural born movers, waited until infants can walk, they’d, climbed up and down, go in and out of various places, hopped and jumped around, rarely took a moment to breathe; not only were the younger generations just, moving around and about constantly, they’d loved screaming aloud too, crying out loud, or like those sparrows that chirped on and on, incessantly, testing the adults’ auditory nerve endings.
And so, since the kids were in preschool, we’d set many rules, and, because of the various way those preschools are run, there is naturally, this difference in level of discipline that they may have, but, most schools would have the two-and-a-half year-olds line up, to not fight to get out of the class or in and out of places; to take turns in everything, to not hog; as the teacher tells us to sit, we will, sit; as teacher is talking, we all must pay strict attention, behave ourselves, and not making loud noises; and, we must sit up straight, and stand up straight too.
We’d looked at these well-behaved toddlers, praised them for being so well-behaved, but, we’d forgotten that a child of two or three, wasn’t natural born to stand in line and wait, or to stand up straight, to keep oneself quiet; to sit up straight, and to stand up straight too.
There was once a mother who took her second year kindergarten son to see me, because the teacher complained about how he’d gotten up and walked around in the middle of the class sessions, and even as the teacher told him to sit back down, he’d become, squirmy, like a worm. The teacher said, “If nine out of ten children are sitting still and one of them isn’t, then, the one who isn’t and couldn’t sit perfectly still IS the problem!”
I looked at this well-mannered enough child before me, stated, “the teachers in this kindergarten is really weird, she may have read the book ‘You’re Special’ to the kids in the mornings, but, as she saw a special child in the afternoon, she’d said, ‘he has a problem!’”, I’d sighed, and said to the mother, in my perfectly clear and affirmative voice, “in my view, those nine other well-behaved, sitting still four-year-olds, are the ones we needed to worry about!”
And so, this just shows, how you stupid adults are still, FORCING the younger generations, to FIT into what YOU believe is acceptable categories of behavior, and, because you LACKED the COMMON SENSE (as it’s NOT even scholastic knowledge???) that kids are bound to be active, running around, exploring their surrounding environments, because that, is how they learn, by HANDS-ON experiences in life, by manipulating things, to LEARN about how things worked!
