This is what the locals are doing, to ensure a better quality education for the children, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
Tseng-Ling, a small village, in the suburb of Yujing, Tainan, behind the growing industry of selling mangoes, are the aging populations, the loss of the younger populations, as well as the education of children. The Inspiring Seeds Program started by a group of college students, initiated the “Kudos for mangoes!” initiative, they’d managed to turn the sales of the agricultural product into funding for the education of local children, and developed lesson plans based off of local children’s needs, and helped “raise up” this group of children in the faraway area where there’s this lacking of resources in education.
and this, is what the plan looks like, in Chinese…with the team setting up the plan, getting the local planters to sell the mangoes to the public, with the public buying up the fruit, and the money goes into devising the lessons for the kids locally…
The “Kudos for mangoes!” program set up the exchange programs of local industries and education, other than having multifaceted lesson plans, the program also allowed the locals to trade the mangoes in for an education. The team had first, through the local community, to buy up the mangoes from local growers, then, sell the fruits on an online platform, and after the costs had been deducted from the total sales, the remaining amount was put into an education fund for the local children in Tseng-Ling, the team planned to design even MORE lessons based off of local population’s needs.
This team was made up of college students from various colleges, universities, and majors in Tainan. The team members spanned across the architecture, psychology, medical, statistics, arts, liberal arts, mathematics, as well as education majors, and, the lesson plans they’d designed were all backed up by professional knowledge.
In the past two-and-a-half years, the team was stationed in Tseng-Ling, and the team members would go to the local elementary schools on Saturdays, to give the kids their lessons.
The person who initiated this action is a medical student in Chenggong University, Chang. Chang stated, that the purpose of education is NOT in getting every single child into a top-notch university, nor is it making every single student into medical doctors, attorneys, instead, it’s for everybody to become a power of influence, in one’s own hometown.
Chang found, that most of the elementary school education curricula are designed for the city-based elementary schools, that it’d caused the children in the regions deprived of resources a hard time in learning, the team devised the lesson plans, fitting to the local needs, combining the medical, the dramatic, the arts, the cultural recognitions, as well as counseling, after combining these with the local culture, they’d made better connections with the local communities, for instance, he’d taught the kids how to take someone’s blood pressures, teach them about knowledges of health, and so, the children can turn into the community, and help the elderly get their blood pressures taken and recorded.
So, this, is on the fitting of the materials of education for children, and because this group of children didn’t have the resources that the kids in the cities have, they needed a different kind of lesson, because I doubt, that the quadratic formula would prove to be useful in this sort of a place, than how to decide which crops to plant in the various seasons of harvest, and, this team of college students, by making the materials of education to connect with the lifestyle, the learning needs of the local children, they’re, ensuring that children will have, WHAT they need to succeed, and, life is still NOT all about the academics, or making straight-A’s in school, it’s how well you fare in life later on that’s the most important, and this method of education ensures that the children in the elementary years right now, can have the skills they will need to carry them far in life.
