Just because the deadline’s passed, doesn’t mean that the crime wasn’t committed, and because you were able to, make the case drag out for so long, that it’d passed the deadline, you escaped punishment, oh yeah, and it’s also because, you’d apologized, to the victims, right??? A man, Shu fourteen years ago, ran over and killed a seventy-year-old elderly woman, the D.A. had investigated, and gotten nowhere for years on end. Last year, the District Attorney’s Offices in Taoyuan received a tip of how Shu was involved, and although the prosecution deadlines had passed, the D.A. initiated the “reparation justice”; Shu admitted to wrong doing, and was willing to pay them $600,000N.T., the son of the deceased chose to forgive him, he said, “We’d only wanted the truth all these years, if he was willing to admit to what he’d done, then, we must, give him the opportunity to make right as well.”
The District Attorney pointed out, that the restorative justice is similar to a mediation, to mend the wounds, to soothe the emotional despairs, and is known as “the laws aren’t always black and white”.
The District Attorney’s Office in Taoyuan pointed out, that in 2002, after a compact ran the elderly, Lee over, the driver fled, and the police used the license number provided by the witnesses, and found that the car belonged to Chen, the officer, but, Chen said, that he was at home, that his car was stolen already, the D.A. thought that he wasn’t responsible for the hit-and-run, but the family of the elderly woman couldn’t accept it as a fact, kept fighting for appeals.
After the case went dead for over a decade, last year in August, the D.A. received a witness account, claimed to have been the witness, to the entire process of the elderly woman, getting run over, hoped that this can set things right again. The District Attorney, Liu sorted through the details, and found, that it was the forty-five year-old man, Shu who’d run over and killed the elderly woman, that his accomplices, Lo and Wu went with him, and stole the officer, Chen’s vehicle; then after the accident, the three of them split, never met back up again, and the whistleblower was one of the men involved, Wu.
Shu originally denied the allegations, but Wu had given accounts on the details of the accident, that was when Shu cried and admitted to how he was high on drugs, too intoxicated and behind the wheels; he’d told the District Attorneys, “After I was released from prison back in 2009, I’d turned over a new leap, and I’d not expected something I’d done wrong can get found out, from over ten years ago.”
Because of the statutory period of the hit-and-run, involuntary manslaughter, and grand larceny was ten years, and, although on the civil and criminal fronts, this case had gone past the statutory period, the D.A. asked for the consensus of both parties, and, with the committee of repair’s help, Shu kneeled before the family members of the elderly he ran over, went to offer incense to her, and agreed to pay for his wrongdoing.
And so, this still just shows, that if you’d done something bad, you will NOT escape, you may not get found today, or tomorrow, or even years from now, but, you will get found, and, before you are found, you’d have to live with, the tortures from your guilty conscience, for the wrongdoings you did to someone else.
