ADVICE, to ALL you parents out there: STOP popping that I-Pad or whatever in front of your kids, to MAKE them SHOOSH!!! Translated…
The trend of myopia had almost spread across the entire population of Taiwan, the sight scans for children from four to five before school age reported, that there were, over 38,000 children in the age group with eye problems, totaling to eleven percent of children. The doctors pointed out, that heading outdoors for activities can delay or prevent the onset of myopia in children, suggesting that the parents take their young outdoors more, to NOT let the high-tech gadgets babysit.
The National Health Institute estimated that last year, of the almost 350,000 four-to-five year-old before school age children were scanned for their eye problems, and of them all, nearly fifty thousand children didn’t pass their eye exams, and on the second exam there were, 38,000 children who’d still not passed the eye exams. The statistics done by the Department of Education also showed, that first graders from the 2015 school year with bad eye sight was 26.1 percent, and by sixth grade, the number rose to 63.9 percent, by middle school, the number reached 69 percent.
The Eye Department Head of Changgang Hospital in Kaohsiung, Wu said that using your eyes in shorter distances long-term is a primary risk factor for myopia, that clinically, they noted that a lot of the parents may get too busy with work, and just threw a high-tech gadget to occupy their young, the hospital had treated a fourth grade young boy, who’d only used high-tech gadgets for just a year’s time, and his eye sight showed that he was nearsighted already.
Wu pointed out, that especially during the first and second grade years, the increase in measurements of myopia grow the fastest, the international studies showed, that during this time, the changes in eyesight was by 200 degrees on average, and, there’s an estimated four times more of these children who’d started using the high-tech gadgets for developing retinol detachment, and they are high risk at becoming blind.
Wu pointed out, that because there’s enough light source outdoors, the studies showed, that children who played outdoors for eighty to one-hundred-twenty minutes a day, a year later, they would reduce their chances of having nearsightedness by fifty percent, they’d suspected that being outdoors causes the retina to produce more dopamine, which was the key to not becoming nearsighted. In the past decade, the school-age children’s rates of myopia rose to fifty percent from thirty-one percent, and since the schools started advocating doing activities outdoor, last year, it’d dropped to only forty-six percent.
The national health organization advocates that parents during the summers take their kids outdoors more; Wu also reminded, that the nutrition products that were said to help the eye sight normally don’t work at all, the most important thing is to get into the good habits of using one’s eyes as needed, and that for every thirty minutes of close-range eye use, you need to take ten minutes off, so your eyes can have time to rest.
So, although the cause of deteriorating eye sight is NOT directly caused by the prevalence of the technologies, but, bad usage habits are, so, as parents, you should watch your kids more, especially in the summers, because they have NOTHING to do, and would be more prone to stay and tune in to televisions, and playing games on their iPads or your cell phones.
