The Filipino male migrant worker Dar-Wen who came to work in Taoyuan, two years ago, late one night, used a screwdriver, stabbed and murdered a small grocery shop owner, Lin, to death, tied up his wife and his young children, after raping his wife, he’d robbed the family’s $300,000N.T. The judge of the first trial believed, that Dar-Wen used extreme measures to commit the crimes, sentenced him to death; but the judge of the second trial thought, that his act of murder and rape wasn’t premeditated, that his behaviors hadn’t reached the extremely cruel, sentenced him to life in prison instead, the Highest Courts maintained the rulings of the appeal, the case is final.
Dar-Wen (age 30) escaped death, mainly because the highest court and the judge from his second trial thought, that he was overwhelmed with the medical treatments for his own daughter’s heart conditions, that he’d needed the money, that the motives were different compared to money being the primary causes of murder.
The verdict also stated, that Dar-Wen’s murder of the shop owner and the raping of his wife wasn’t premeditated, that his behaviors was bad, “But not to the point of extremely cruel”, that it’d not caused any copycat, plus, he’d only murdered one individual, he’d not had any priors in the Philippines or Taiwan before, that after he’d committed the crimes, he’d shown great worries for the family he has in the Philippines, and pleaded guilty, that there’s a chance, of him, being reformed.
Dar-Wen (age 30) would frequent the grocery store owned and operated by the couple, Lin, he’d asked the owner, Lin (age 39), to wire his wages to his account in the Philippines, and learned, that there are, huge sums of money in the shop.
Because his daughter back home has a congenital heart condition, he couldn’t afford to get her treated, two years ago, on the late evening of April 11th, he’d gone to the shop to buy a phone card, and used a hammer, pounded on the head of the shop owner, Lin, while he was restocking the shelves, he’d used so much force, that the wooden handles cracked.
The shop owner Lin turned around and fought back, Dar-Wen got on top of Lin, picked up a screwdriver, and, stabbed Lin in the head, neck, chest, and abdomen, over a dozen of times, stabbed Lin to death. Then, he’d, robbed the shop clean, he’d found that Lin’s wife and children had been waken up, by the noises and came downstairs to check, in front of the children, he’d subdued Lin’s wife, and, kicked her.
Dar-Wen duct-taped Lin’s wife and children up, and, covered their mouths, he’d used the electrical wires, tied up Lin’s wife’s neck by the bed side, after he took a bath, he’d led the children into the other room, locked the door from outside. Dar-Wen returned back to the bedroom, raped Lin’s wife, and got away, with the $30,000N.T. worth of cash in the shops and the drawers.
The first trial, the courts believed, that Lin had shook his hand, out of fear, to prevent Dar-Wen from getting closer, and Dar-Wen had waved to Lin, to ask him to come, that his murderous behaviors was like toying with a small animal, that the body of the deceased were stabbed so many times; and the children were only ten and five, and were, left, without their father. On top of that, Dar-Wen had, shoved his penis inside Lin’s wife’s anus to rape her, the judge sentenced him to death, based off of murder and robbery.
On the civil claims, the first trial judge mandated that Dar-Wen pay the families over $32,000,000N.T.s.
So, this is, another crime of opportunity, the man was there, to rob the shop, he’d not expected that the owner would put up a fight, and that, was why he’d murdered the man in such brutal manner, and, he took advantage, of how his wife was, left alone, and raped her, and, despite how awful his life was in the Philippines, he still had NO right, to murder someone here…
