I’d just, started working, in the sixties, my first job was working as a floor sweep at a factory, back then, I was paid $50N.T. s per month, my wages paled by comparison, to the senior experienced workers who could make $200 to $300 N.T.s per hour. But, the factory provided the room and board, I was able to, make ends meet, I’d sent $30 N.T.s of my wages home, for my family’s household expenses, and saved the $20N.T.s for myself as allowances.
Back then, the world was, simpler, life was easy, for instance, those who’d sold sugar canes had, chopped the sugar canes to smaller pieces, and called out to sell, as they trekked down the streets, each section cost fifty cents, and I’d bought some from time to time, to satisfy my sweet tooth, this, was my one and only snack, and there was, nothing else I’d needed, or wanted to, spend on, that way, I’d saved, some money each month. I’d set the goal of saving $50N.T. per months, and as I was able to save to this amount, I’d, donated the cash to charitable purposes.
The years flew by, I’d switched to a higher paying job, until after I married and we started owning our storefront, was the money not tight anymore, and I was able to, help more. The years passed by very quickly, in a flash, I’d incorporated the values of “doing good every day” into a part of my life, and, influenced others, to join me, to help make the world better.
As my children got older, I’d gotten more money, started getting involved in the fundraising charitable events, the resources were mostly donated by my friends, relatives, and families. And on the day of the fundraiser, other than getting the entire family to help out, I’d called on my sisters, my nephews to join along too, and, we’re able to stay even more connected, it’d become, more like a large-scale family reunion. We’d called out to sell the stuff, at the top of our lungs, and, used this power we had, as well as the passions, to build up a bridge of compassion, to make the world better, more harmonious.
Now, after my retirement, I’d entered into the volunteer lines, helping others allowed me to feel that I’m needed by the world, and, my former coworkers were, my spiritual buddies. Other than working, we’d shared the ins and out of life with each other, and, we were also able to, learn something on the younger generations of volunteers too. Looking up as an example, lowering our heads, to learn, that way, we will all, stay connected with the outside world.
Looking back, the $50N.T.s had, become a milestone, that marked my passage into helping out, although I was never really that rich, I’d never been poor either, so long as you have the heart to help out, you’d not needed to wait until you’d accumulated a lot of wealth. Helping out makes us happy, being kind, is the “heirloom” I will leave behind, for my children and grandchildren.
So, by helping out, you’re not only benefitting those who are directly receiving the assistance, you’re also, passing along a legacy, of doing good, and this kindness cycle will keep on rolling, from your generation, to your children, to their own children’s, and the next, next, next, next generations to come, you’d set a great example for others, you’d made a huge difference in the lives of many people, help them realize that there’s more to life than just “me”!
