With so many trials handed to her, she’d still, excelled, from the Newspapers, translated…

The third-year middle school student from Jinghu Middle School, Jia-Ling Hsieh, two years ago, was diagnosed with Takayasu arteritis, a rare condition, causing her to become blind in one eye, and failing vision in the other, she was, immobilized; but, she was still, optimistic and hardworking, to catch up to her lessons in school, she’d received the Presidential Education Award for her hardworking mannerism this year.

She’d told, that she hopes that one day when she woke up, she could have her good health back again, but before this day, she would, work very hard, so she doesn’t, disappoint the teachers, as well as her family members who love her so.

and here’s a photograph of this brave, young woman, photo courtesy of the UDN Papers…

Hsieh is a very good looking young woman, since she was growing up, she’d been very healthy, but the heavens played a huge joke on her.  Two years ago in January during her winter break, as a first year middle school student, Hsieh felt ill, and often felt that she was about to pass out or doze off, but because of how busy her family was, they’d always planned to take her to the physicians in a couple of days, on the second of the Lunar calendar New Year, she woke up, and couldn’t see a thing.

She was referred to Taiwan to see a specialist, and the diagnosis of Takayasu arteritis was confirmed, and because there was an inflammatory response in the arteries of her eyes, that’s caused damages to her optical nerves, she can only see blurred shapes and figures.  Ever since, she’d gone under the knives several times on end, had stents in her heart twice, she’d stayed in the hospitals, for an entire six months straight, and now, her condition is stable, but she’d still needed to get her follow-up appointments by the month, and she would still have sudden onsets, becoming faint, falling down, and needed someone close to her constantly to watch her.

and this, is what the illness looks like on a CT scan, I think…

Her homeroom instructor, Hong told, that Jia-Ling is hardworking, focused, outstanding, pursued perfection, and before she fell ill, she’d maintained her grades as the top three students of her class, and after she was diagnosed, she’d still worked very hard to learn, with the learning aids that the school prepared, the magnifier, and the large-print textbooks, she’d spent more time on her studies compared to before, to maintain her grades.

Jia-Ling Hsieh said, that at first, she felt she was overcome with bad luck, but all around her, she’d found supports from her parents, her relatives, elders at the school, her classmates, so she told herself, that she needed to be strong, to get better.  In July, she will come to the VMH in Taipei for treatment, and, her teachers and elders alike all hoped, that she can receive help from all around for her medical needs, hoped, that she can regain her health soon.

So, despite this young woman’s situation, she’d still kept at her goals of performing well in school, and, it’s with that mindset of never giving up she will be able to, hopefully, beat her condition.
