A Librarian Received the Award for the “Advocate for Reading” for Treating the Students Like They Were Her Own Children

The love and dedication of this librarian, translated…

Wang who was the recipient of the “Advocate for Reading Award”, works as a librarian for Taidong’s Bei-Nan Elementary School, the kids all called her “auntie”. She’d treated every single student who’d come to the library with everything she has, helped the kids find warmth, and themselves, in the reading materials. To the students, she’s not just a librarian, she became more like their mother, counselor.

In 2003, Wang came to the school, to become a story mom, in advocating reading, she saw how focused on her stories the kids were, and wanted to accompany alongside them, as they read and grow, in 2012, the school had a vacancy for librarian, and she’d applied and successfully started working in the school, and managed to make her own dreams of helping out more children come true.

Once, there was a fifth grade transfer student who came to the library, because he was still not yet familiar with his new school, he’d chosen the library as a place for him to be. At first, this student would read and walk, and that, was why he’d often arrived late to class, Wang talked with the homeroom instructor, and made a pact with the student, that if he’d come late to class, then, he wouldn’t be able to go to the library to read for the day. After that, every time the bells sounded off, the student would rush into the classroom, and started being on time.

And on top of that, the student was able to smooth his own tempers down quite a bit by reading, and started being able to restrict himself, started making more friends, and would recommend books, suitable for his friends’ various characters to read.

For instance, he’d shared with his classmates who are into sports, “Becoming Smart with Playing Sports”, the rules of thumb for how to not get injured when engaged in sports, and shared novels he was reading with his female classmates too, not only was he able to change the way he’d interacted with his fellow classmates, it’d also made Wang confident, and gotten the affirmations she’d needed for what she’s doing.

So, this, is the dedication of a school librarian, she’d helped the kids find themselves inside the reading books that they picked up, she’d also, touched many lives of the students at the school, helping them become more social, getting them more involved with their peers, and, she had gone beyond the call of her duty as a school librarian, she’d helped the students become better people too!

    • This is a story from my newspapers, about the dedication of a school librarian, and she’d passed along the love of reading to the students who’d visited the school libraries, and i’m afraid that there won’t be any articles that follow it, sorry! it’s on how someone goes above and beyond the call of duty to make a differences in other people’s lives.
