The UDN Papers did a series on how the household foreign workers are overworked, with longer hours, and measly pays, they’re here, to take care of our elderly primarily, but are often, treated as the maids who are also, responsible for everything big AND small in the households. I’d encountered, such similar cases personally.

Awhile ago, I’d had a conversation with a friend, she’d not only been able to, “loan” out her foreign hired helper to us a couple of hours a day, to help us look after the kids, she’d also, counted up the ways, that she’d come up with, of how to, effectively, use this hired help.
This particular foreign hired helper, other than being in charge of everything big AND small in my friend’s house, she’d also needed to, look after my friend’s immobilized father-in-law, and, she’d needed to have the suppers prepped and served by six in the evenings, because she’d needed to, rush over to my friend’s older sister’s place to cook for the family, and, she’d worked over at my friend’s older sister’s place until about nine, then, returned back to my friend’s house, and continued working until one, or two in the morning, a nd, on the weekends, she’d had to, head over to my friend’s older sister’s place to clean, to do the laundry for the family too.
The two sisters “shared their resources”, the foreign hired maid’s had doubled up on the demands of her workload, but, the demands that her bosses made of her, is very specific, like after the laundry is dried, she’d not only needed to, take them into the house, fold them up, she’d needed to, iron each and every article of clothing, including the undergarments too, it’s really, hard, to believe, that that, was what the foreign hired helper needed to accomplish in her day.

We’d turned down her “kind” offer, and, this sort of stories keeps on happening, all around us, some say, “the most beautiful thing to see in Taiwan is the people”, but, in the eyes of the migrant workers, do they actually, see it as we would?
This, is JUST plain BULLSHIT!!! Just because you’d PAID for a foreign worker to come here, to look after your young or the elderly in your families, that doesn’t mean, that because you’d PAID for them, they are, your SLAVES, who needed to do whatever it is that you’d requested them to, and, the above case was really, outrageous, because the family was NOT only just overusing this helper that they’d hired, and the hired help’s duties were only, to look after the elderly in the family too, and now, she’d become, the household maid? How would you feel, if what’s happened here, happened to someone you know, like say, your daughters, your sisters, or even, your mothers, huh??? Have some E-M-P-A-T-H-Y!!!
