Collateral damages from a police chase, the tragedy that struck this family, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
Yesterday afternoon, the police officers from the city of Taoyuan were chasing a suspect with drugs, the suspect backed his car three, four hundred meters in trying to evade his arrest, he’d managed to crush the road side noodle stand owner, Lai’s seven-year-old daughter. The officers stayed behind to try to attempt to resuscitate the young child, and the suspect managed to escape from being arrested, the city police showed deep regret for the child’s death, and, they’d called in ALL the forces, to try to find the suspect who had possessions of illegal substances right now.
Lai’s father said, that the police had a duty for catching the bad guys, that he wouldn’t blame the police officers for what happened to his own child, after all, nobody wanted it that way; and now, he only hopes, that the police can gather up the evidences quickly, and catch the killer of his daughter, to NOT allow him to run free out in the world.

The city patrol squad’s officer, Hsu said, first, he’d discovered a couple who were abusing illegal substances in the car, and as he’d told them to pull over, they’d refused to surrender themselves, and, considering how crowded the street was at the time, he’d given up on pursuing them. The license plate of the suspect, “6000-DR”, was easy to remember, yesterday, as he was patrolling the streets, he’d found this same vehicle on Kang-Yi Street, and he’d zoomed in, and pursued.
The officer saw that the car turned onto Bei-Pu Rd., that he’d not made them alert, so, the officer ran up to the intersection ahead, three officers got out, stood on the left, the right, as well as the front of the suspect’s car, they saw a slightly heavyset woman with long hair at the wheel, and the man on the passenger side, on his right arm, there seemed to be a paraphernalia, the officers immediately hollered for them to get out, but the woman backed out and started running away.
The two officers failed in attempts to stop them on foot, they’d hopped into the patrol car that another officer was driving, and chased them all the way. The suspect drove in reverse at 140km/h speed for about three to four hundred meters, hit the stand by Jeng-Kang Second Street entrance, after the driver ran over the child, she’d turned toward San-Ming Road and continued evading arrest; the three officers were trying to save the life of the young child at the scene, they’d called out to other officers on the roads, to help make an arrest, but the other officers on the roads were all busy at the time.

The people who set up stands nearby told, that the young girl was very well-behaved, that after school, she’d always shown up at the stand to help out, and they’d often heard her holler out to the customers, “Come get some noodles”, she’d very loved. The public suspected, that the police couldn’t catch the suspects, and had caused the suspects to kill the young child. The captain of the safety squad, Chen stated, that the incident took place at the night markets, the road wasn’t big enough, and there was a huge crowd, that, was why they’d not driven, full speed in pursuit.
So, a young life is lost here, and it’s still ALL because the adults, because the drug addict wanted to escape from the police, the driver hit the child, ran her over, and now, the death of this young girl had caused the local public to question the ability of the police department.
