He Leapt, from the Seventh Floor, and the Elderly Woman Who Sold Vegetable Died as a Collateral Damage

The collateral damage death of a suicide, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

A man, Lin, living in Nantou, was suspected of being troubled by his own depression, yesterday, he’d flipped over the safety walls of his seventh floor residential building, leapt from the seventh floor downward next to his own building, and, landed, on the elderly woman, Chen, who’d just, set up a vegetable stand by the side of the roads, both were seriously injured and had both died. As Chen, the elderly woman’s family were notified, they’d rushed to the scene, they couldn’t expect, that she’d died, in an accident that didn’t even involve her in the first place.

Based off of investigations, Chen (age 73) originally set her vegetable stand up outside of the print shop owned by Lin, had interacted with him regularly. And recently, another person set up a stand selling guava at her original spot, so, she’d moved over a bit, and, Lin who’d taken a leap had, landed on her.

As the woman’s husband and son received the call from the police, they’d, rushed to the scene, they saw their wife and mother’s slippers, and farmer’s hat over to the side, and the small stool where she’d sat to sell her goods crushed, they were overcome with grief. The family said, that they will, pursue the death of their loved one, in the civil courts.

Lin (age 66), after being rushed to the hospital, had died, in the process of being resuscitated. The E.R. doctor, Hong from Yo-Ming Hospital stated, that Chen had no visible external injuries, based off of the man’s 132 pounds’ weight, plus the acceleration as he leapt from the seventh floor, the impact was that of being hit, by a vehicle, driving at a high speed. Before the woman arrived at the hospital, there was, NO sign of life, and, after the hospitals conducted emergency resuscitation measures on her for an hour, she’d still died.

Lin’s son told the police, that his father had been treated at the mental hospital, had taken antidepressants for a very long time, was emotionally unstable. Recently, however, he seemed, to have been in a better mood, told them that he planned to travel abroad, and, with the family preparing the items for his travels, he’d, taken the leap, ended his own life.

The woman who’d set up the vegetable stand, Chen, had been married to her husband for over fifty years, the two of them sold the vegetables to raise their five sons up, she was, already, the grandmother of ten. The couple would go to the vegetable gardens to plant, to harvest, to take the vegetables to the marketplace to sell, to keep themselves active.

not my photograph…

“We’d ridden out on the motorcycle together in the morn, how could she be dead!”, Chen’s husband shook his head in disbelief, with tears, circling in his eyes, yesterday, he’d rode his wife to the marketplaces to set up the shops, and he’d returned back to their vegetable plantations, wanting, to harvest more items, without knowing, that in just a couple of hours’ time, he would be separated from his own wife by death.

Chen’s daughter-in-law told, that her parents-in-law got along very well, that from time to time, they’d have their spats, that everyday when they’d gone to the vegetable plantations, and gone out to sold the items, they were always, side-by-side, that they are, the model married couple in their neighbors’ beliefs. The witness pointed out, that two nights ago, Lin had, climbed out onto the roof, and, held on, to the railings, looked downward, and the neighbor said, that he thought he was up there, to check out the conditions of the leaky roof, didn’t pay him much mind, and, he’d taken the leap downward.

And so, this would be, the SELFISH results of a man’s behavior, and yeah sure, he was, troubled by his own depression, but he was selfish in that he’d not considered the consequences of his own behavior, just focused too hard on the pains that he was feeling from life, which led him to made the decision, to take his leap downward, and in the process of committing suicide, he’d taken the life of another, leaving behind, not just HIS own family broken, but the family of the elderly woman too.
