The Life-Changing Decision that Happened When I Was Seven Years Old

The choices were, laid out in front of you now, and, how, will you pick??? Translated…

The summer I’d turned seven, it was, right at the time for me, to enter into the elementary years, and, my parents were, contemplating on whether or not, to enroll me into school. During those years, the girls rarely got sent to school, besides, we’re, quite poor, and it’d not been easy, for my parents, to have to raise the six of us, it would be, truly, difficult, for them, to provide money for us to get an education.

As the adults were feeling stressed over this, my mother said to me, “Why don’t you decide”. She’d given me two choices, first, not going to school, but she will take me into town, to get those pairs of sandals I’d wanted for a very long time, and she would also, take me to the banquet, hosted by our relatives too; secondly, go to school, but not the other two options.

For a seven-year-old kid, this was, truly, a difficult choice to make. As I was growing up, I’d had my older siblings’ hand-me-downs, I’d truly, wanted, that brand new pair of sandals, putting it on, go with my mother, to the relatives’ banquet meals, following my three sisters out to the fields, and play on. And still, at the same time, I’d, wanted to slung a backpack behind my back, and, go with my friends to school to learn………

I’d fallen silent, for a couple of seconds, then, I’d told my mother, with this firmness in my voice, “Mom, I want to go to school! I don’t want the sandals!”, at that precise moment, I’d felt, that I’m a, grown up, that I’d no longer needed to rely on my parents, my older siblings, to tell me how to decide. And, at the age of seven, I’d become, my own boss, made the most intelligent and correct decision for my entire life. Later on, I’d entered into the elementary years without fail, and, I’d also, been blessed enough, to get that pair of sandals I’d had my eyes on for a very long time.

and this, was your OTHER option…

And to this day, I’m still very glad, of the choice I’d made back then as a young child.

So, this, is ALL in retrospect, and, for a young child, that, would be a very difficult decision, but you’d had the foresight, knew, that it would be, more important, for you, to get an education, as for the shoes, you can go back any time afterwards, to get them, and so, that, was the wise decision that you, as a seven-year-old kid had made…
