A man, making his own visions come true, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The Musical Instrument Bank set up by the Department of Education started operating formally yesterday, it’d gotten the donated musical instruments from all around, sending the instruments to the distant areas, and provided the repair sites that would be a mobile station hoped, to get rid of the belief of taking up music being the rights of the rich, helping the children in the distant areas fulfill their dreams. Currently, the musical instrument bank had gotten over a hundred items donated, and, members of the public were generous, to help the elementary schools in distant areas to replace the piano that’s been used for over forty years.
Last December, a group of elementary students from the Ching-Ai Elementary School in Nantou dressed up as the natives here, gathered abruptly in front of the Christmas tree of the Taipei 101 Shopping Mall’s fourth floor. The children had a violin each, and started performing the classic of Canon; the famous violinist, Lin the joined in. This flash musical performance started getting hits online, it’d made a lot of the people in Taiwan feel moved to tears.
Nobody thought, that the native children not only knew how to sing, that as they’d played on their violins, the music that came out sounded so heavenly too, but, where did they get the money to take up the lessons? Where, did they get the musical instruments?
not my photograph…
The husband-and-wife pair of instructors of Dear Elementary School, Wang and Chen, for years on end, not only did they teach the native children play the violins, they’d also taught them to make the instruments, to repair them, they were able to, introduce the nobility of music to the tribal regions, deep in the mountains, the Dear Orchestra had also won the nation’s musical competitions twice. But, not all the schools in the distant areas are so blessed, there were, even more schools that couldn’t find a music teacher, without the musical instruments, and the children’s musical abilities were never, discovered.
In order to help make the musical dreams of the children living in the distant areas come true, the Department of Education here, set up the world’s first, with the help from the Music majors of the Shih-Jien College, “The Musical Instrument Bank—combining the trade-in of instruments, and repairs”, through the donations made by singular persons, charitable organizations, and the musical instrument industries, they’d managed to get the programs going.
This, is an amazing story of how the world all got together, to help the dreams of these children who lived in areas of reduced resources come true, and, being able to take up music IS a blessing.
