and no, this is not how the dogs are “dressed” when they made those visits to the eldlery…
Putting those strays to good use, allowing them, to have a purpose in their lives now, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The Taipei City’s Animal Protections Department is now, pushing forth the “Public Service Dogs Program”, this year, once again, it’d worked with the “Taiwan’s Dog Doctors Association” and set the “Stray Dogs Plan” into effect, the mayor, Ke stated, that there are, two primary goals of this program, first, to find the stray dogs families that are willing to adopt them, secondly, to train these strays into “medical doctors”.
Mayor Ke yesterday at the press conference, interacted with the canine doctors, he’d lifted his leg up mildly, and the canine doctors, like those agility competitors, leapt over it with no effort at all; the trainer close by explained, that the movement of lifting up one’s legs can help tone up the leg muscles in the elderly, and, with the accompaniment of the doggy doctors, no matter how boring the original rehabilitations routine, now becomes, more interesting to do.
offering the companionship…
Mayor Ke also filmed a small advocate advertisement, in the feature, he had on a white robe, having a meeting, with the doggy doctors who were also, wearing their white robes. Ke asked one of the doggy doctors, “Bagel”, “I’d heard, that you’d been, on an eating binge lately?”, to which Bagel explained that it was, him, helping the elderly man with his hand movements in the physical therapies, that grandpa used the feeder to feed him, “Grandpa was very happy, feeding me, and I too, had, enjoyed all the treats I’d received.”
The manager of the Taiwan Doggie Doctor’s Association, Chang stated, that this current stray dog program was different from the ones in the past, in that the trainers of the Doggie Doctor Associations would head into the shelters, to pick out the strays for training, and after education and training, these dogs will be adapted to living in human homes, and add on to the opportunities of them, being adopted.
Chang said, in order to become a canine doctor, the canine must have a stable personality, and need to be personable too, and after the trainings of becoming canine doctors, they can enter into the nursing homes, the hospitals, and work as doggy doctors. A lot of the elderly would refuse to interact with other humans, but, they may have interactions with the furry animals, and would become willing to open up, to pet, to feed the dogs; the doggy doctors can also help the elderly in some stretching exercises too, to help the elderly keep their spirits up.
The animal department manager of the city pound, Chen stated, that the doggy doctors program picked twenty to thirty stray dogs from the animal shelter in Neihu, and the dogs were sent to the Taiwanese Canine Doctor Foundation to train, and become canine doctors.
helping the elderly, by just accompanying them…
Mayor Ke said, that because of the impact of decline in birthrate, the elderly lacked companions they can converse with, and that the program not only helped these stray dogs find suitable homes, it’d also, trained the stray dogs into medical assistance animals, helping the elderly in their rehabilitation processes.
And so, this, would be a GREAT program, because there are the stray dogs who needed the care and concerns from humans, and there’s this HUGE population of elderly people who are lacking the interpersonal contact, and so, the elderly and the dogs are paired up together, and, surely enough, because these dogs are very close to people, they’d made the elderly more social, and by helping the elderly rehabilitate, the dogs are able to, find a good home for themselves, a wonder program that’s set up here!
