The At-Home Hospice Program Allowing the Elders to Finish the Last Part of Their Journeys with Dignity

Being able to die with dignity is what this is all about, translated…

Mr. Lee at age eighty-six, has high-blood pressure, and suffered a minor stroke awhile back, two years ago, he’d tripped and fallen, causing a fracture in his femur, he’d had surgery for it. Last year in July, because of fatigue and lack of appetite, he was lifted to the emergency rooms, and it was, AML. And because the family didn’t want to put him through the trials of the surgeries, they’d chosen the hospice care and treatment programs, after he was released from the hospitals, he’d started living his final days at home.

During the time of Mr. Lee’s treatment, the doctors would often make visits to his home, and the nurses would go to his home weekly, to visit, to help draw his blood for testing, and based off of his condition, the nurse would then, recommend the family to take Mr. Lee back to the hospital for a transfusion and other courses of treatment. Because of pneumonia and the lack of appetite, Mr. Lee was hospitalized for a short while, and about eight months ago, he’d died peacefully.

Because of the coming of the aging population, the demands of the medical treatment would impact the various families, and the stay-at-home treatment program is for the purpose of allowing the patients to receive quality care at the comfort of their own homes.

And, although everybody has a different meaning of what dying well is, but no matter the courses of treatment, the most important is being at ease in life AND death, hoping, that the patient can maintain her/his dignity, and not be in constant agony from the pains, and the family members can also be close by the patients’ sides, to reduce the stresses and pressures from facing the end of one’s life.

So, this is the importance of being able to choose which sort of final measures you want for your loved ones, and yourselves even, and, there are more and more options on how to die with dignity available these days, and the important thing, is that the patient doesn’t suffer, because in the end, the QUALITY of life ALWAYS wins over the quantity of life!
