From the Front Page Sections, and this, should raise an alarm too, translated…
My father’s coworker, Mr. Hsu is over eighty years old. His eldest son is severely mentally handicapped, in middle school was when his troubles started, as the days went on, his conditions worsened. In the earlier years, Mr. Hsu had sent his son into facilities, back then, he was still working, and could afford to, and after he’d retired, he’d taken his son home to care on his own, and because the medical charges aren’t cheap, his own retirement pensions were just about spent up, his application for low-income assistance at the local land offices got throw back again and again. I’d suggested that he’d file for a motion, and asked the Social Services Department to send over a social worker to evaluation his family situation, to be treated as a case study on its own, but in the end, he couldn’t be listed for the low-income assistance because he was on the retirement pensions from his company and he has a property. After Mr. Hsu understood that, he’d stopped, filing the papers for the assistances, he’d told me, pessimistically, that his eldest son is already in his sixties, and, however long he could, he’ll keep looking after him, until he isn’t able to any longer.
And, Mr. Hsu isn’t an isolated case, an owner of a long-term care facility told me, that recently, there were, multiple members of the home who’d been there a long time that’s gotten their low-income status cancelled, and had to move out, and be taken home by the family members to look after, I’d asked about the fees charged by the facility, he’d told me, that the $21,000N.T. per month is the government standard. And, this would be easy, for us, to understand the situations faced by the low-income elderly, and so, those border lining on the boundaries are, asked, to return back to their own communities.
And, if there’s no security statuses of the mentally ill, and the family members have difficulties looking after them due to economic reasons, and couldn’t send them into a facility, and, to apply for government assistance is way too hard, causing a violent patient to, wander around the local communities, would be having a time bomb waiting to explode at anytime. The murder of that young girl had caused the nation to get angry, but if the above-listed problems aren’t resolved, and these holes of the security, police and society will keep on, persisting.
So, you do see, how this, would be a problem, right??? Because the elderly here didn’t have the money to put his own son into a proper care facility, and so, he’d looked after him on his own, and eventually, he’d become, too strained, too tired, and he’s still being, dragged on, so, where is the government in all of this? And, shouldn’t the government set up a better system to care for these individuals, as they’d paid their taxes while they were still able to work too, so, where’s that social security that’s promised to them, huh???
