More good news we have here, hopefully, this will make up for the past couple of days’ worth of bad news, maybe not, but…translated…

“I’m so blessed, to be able to hear the performances of children.” The Hushih Elementary School’s orchestra’s over a dozen of parents and students, three, to four years ago, started working in the “1919 Food Bank” with the Christian Salvation Foundation, other than taking the near-forty-five pounds worth of donated items to the families in need, the students in the orchestra of the school also put their skills to use, gone to the homes of the elderly, played the oldies, it’d made a lot of the elderly feel the warmth flowing, they’d even started crying out of gratitude.

Pastor Chang who volunteered at the 1919 Service Center has three children, two of them grew up playing in the orchestra in Hushih Elementary School, they’d played the viola and the violin, and would often follow their father to volunteer. Later on, Chang posted photos of him, taking the donated items to the homes on FB, it’d gotten the support from a lot of the parents, and they’d also, taken along their children to pass out the donated goods regularly as well. The children played the tunes that the elderly knew best, which made the elderly happy.

Chang shared, that every time he went on the rounds to deliver the goods, he’d reminded the “young volunteers”, that even IF they’d gone into an awful home, they’d still needed to keep their manners, to not show their discomforts.

Chang said, that there was an elderly woman, Grandma Lee who lived alone, who’d become bedridden, rats were running around in her house, her house was unkempt, like it was, a recycling yard, but the children showed no discomfort, and could play the music for the elderly like they would any other day.

Grandma Lee loved the oldies, and every time she’d heard the kids play “the River of Nostalgia”, “The Moon Speaks for My Heart”, etc., etc., etc., she’d gotten in a very good mood. Grandma Lee kept dreaming of hearing an orchestra live, and now, she was able to enjoy the music from her bed, she’d often told others, “I’m very blessed!”

Chang said, that the children took up the musical instruments, other than for their hobbies or for the sake of competitions, if they could provide the enjoyments in these sorts of volunteer opportunities, they’d not only gotten more chances to be on stage, they can also show their cares and concerns for the less fortunate in the population, “making what they’re doing even MORE meaningful”.

So, this, is how to put a smile on someone’s face all right, because these elderly are living alone, with little to NOBODY to socialize with, which is why the members of this orchestra reaching out to them became even more vital, and it’d not only benefitted the elderly the children visited, it’d also allowed the children to have more performance opportunities too, benefiting both sides here!
