In light of the brutal stabbing death of the young girl, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
As a mother of three, seeing the news of Little Light Bulb and her mother’s descriptions of what had happened, I’d almost started crying in front of my kids, but I’d had to, keep them from seeing this horrid news.
Although seeing this sort of news breaks my heart, but I’d discovered, that there are so many cases of psychosis causing the elderly family members to murder their loved ones. What’s hard for me to take was, this sort of patients, in the provisions of the national health insurance system, and the laws for mental health, still wasn’t forced into treatment, or forced into hospitalization. Other than there was the limit on the days of the hospitalizations, there is a low rate of the psychological health laws being implemented. And, there is a reason for it.
The laws didn’t specify what constitute as “the serious kinds of patients”, and, although a lot of the patients had attempted to hack their families, so long as the doctors treating the individuals not listed her/him as serious, after the patient is released, s/he won’t have to return for a revisit with the doctors. And, if the families can’t persuade the patients to go to the doctors regularly, then, the meds would run out, and, those who should be on meds but aren’t may be walking around you or I every single day.
What’s weird was, we’d already, put a ton of the taxpayers’ dollars on suicide prevention, the following up of suicidal patients, but, we’d had no way of tracking down the mentally ill with tendency for violence, which caused the families of those diagnosed to be under great duress also.
In the instability of the Taiwanese economy, in order to keep ourselves fed, we’d often fail to care for our loved ones, and ignored the importance of our children’s education, and there are those who are bloodsucking leeches toward their parents, and those not in education or employment all over the places, plus the prevalence of mental disorders, without the right kind of intervention, the patients normally showed the lack of independence, and can only rely on their families, and the society for the rest of their lives.
Little Lightbub’s mother bore witness to the psychotic breakdown and the psychosis in action in the perpetrator, she realized, that this was caused by the family systems and the education in Taiwan, but, can her cries cause the society to really pay attention to the education and the family problems that are going on? Hoping, that the Little Lightbulb going off can wake up the society’s concerns, to not prolong the sufferings of the families of the mentally ill patients, as well as the rest of the society.
So, the writer of this article attributes the behavior of this psychotic man to not just his family or himself, but also, the lacking in the system of the society here, but, if the families had stopped functioning already, then, no matter how well set up the society is, it still won’t function normally, so, the problem is still with the specific families, and, I agree on that we need a better system of treatment procedures for the patients with the psychological problems too!
