The view on handing out the death penalty, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The cold-blooded murder of an innocent young child had sparked the debate of whether or not to do with the death penalty again. Could this be, a never-ending debate of the Taiwanese society’s “love and hate, with a total disregard of winning or losing”?
This, is a battle of the value systems! The values of humanity can be split into three primary kinds: one, the generally accepted by the vast majority of the population, secondly, the values accepted by most, third, those values that aren’t as widely accepted. The generally accepted by the vast majority, for instance, the laws, democracy, freedom, human rights; compared to the majority of the values, the mainstream values, became unaware in the public’s mind, the views that most agreed, for instance, the statistic measure of those supporting the death penalty in Taiwan is about eighty-percent; comparing to the minority values, there were only, about ten percent of population in Taiwan who are against the death penalty.
The systems of values would usually change with the time and the space often. For instance, in the earlier years, toward the divorces, most people take the approaching of having the couples working it out best as they possibly can; but now, rather sever it quick, instead of having it dragging out too long, and, the respects toward the individuals are emphasized, “divorce is granted”. But, there should be space for both the mainstream and the secondary value systems, it showed the societies’ acceptance of the various opinions and beliefs, also the freedom of speech, all should be respected.
And although there are those who advocated the doing away with the death penalty, but, the belief of freedom should be respected. But, in the current space and time, supporting the death penalty IS the mainstream beliefs, and, the belief of democracy is “majority rules”, and, the designs of the law also set itself up, accordingly, to comply with the death penalty, and, those who had been found guilty of a crime, who were given the death sentences should naturally, get executed by getting shot with a gun.
So, this, is a debate of what’s humane, versus what’s right, think about it, did those mass murderers consider the rights of others, as they’d gone on a shooting rampage? If they had, they probably wouldn’t have committed the mass murders, would they? And now, as they’re about to get executed, they’d started whining about how the world should do away with the death penalty, but WHY? Shouldn’t you GET punished, for murdering someone so brutally, for taking the lives of others, for destroying a family? I would certainly think so, and if that makes me a supporter of the death penalty, then, so be it!
