The Students Made the Instructor’s Dream of Getting Published Come True! He’d Had Two-Hundred Published Authors Who Were Once His Students

His students are living his dreams FOR him, while he continues dedicating his life to teaching, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

There’s a literary teacher in Tainan, Huang-Der Lin, in six years, he’d published a total of seven volumes for his students, cultivated two hundred students who loved writing, and some of his students even transferred from the engineering department to the college of liberal arts to pursue their “real love”.

Lin loved writing when he was growing up, in high school, he dreamed of becoming a published author, but after he’d started teaching the subject of Chinese, he’d found that he’d not have enough time to write, and so, he’d changed his thoughts, “Wouldn’t it be meaningful, if everybody collaborated in writing, then when it’s just me who’s writing?”, he’d decided, to counsel his students in their writing skills and helping them get published.

Lin, at the start of the new semesters, already mapped out his syllabus, with the topics of strolling in Tainan, culture, local delicacies, to visiting the homes of the deceased local writers, and started this literary map for his students to follow; to leading them write poetry, interviewing the writers locally, and he’d started publishing the volumes of writings his students made, and the writings were picked by a publishing company, and got reedited for publishing too.

The ancient citadel of Fucheng is a place fitting for strolling, but without the tour guides, in 2010, Lin used the subject of taking a long stroll, made his students take a long walk into the alleys, to conduct interviews with the locals, managed to coauthored the book, “Strolling in Fucheng”, and this started a trend, of related tour guides being published one by one.

Lin had helped his students accomplish their dreams of becoming published author, and, all of students set the goals of becoming published authors, and offered one another encouragements, “We should not give up.” But, in the process of getting their drafts returned again and again, needing to make revisions to their writings, taking the students to visit and interview the locals again and again, some of the students were on the verge of giving up, but as they’d re-experienced the places, they’d found the interesting things about literature, and started writing for fun, and, slowly, becoming more and more confident about themselves.

So, this, is the amazing story of an instructor who managed to pass on his love for the literature and writing to his students, he’d dreamed of being published, but, he saw his place as a teacher, and inspired his students, to chase after their writing dreams, and that, is the amazing ways of how a school instructor can influence his students.
