At the Age of Twenty-Six, She’d Become the Youngest Cadaver for the Medical Students in Taipei Medical School

The story of the amazing decision that a young woman made, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

the medical students, working on understanding how the human body works…

As the lights dimmed down, everybody closed her/his eyes, and offered her/his final respects to the cadaver teacher, yesterday, on the memorial for the anatomy course at Taipei Medical School, the seven cadaver teachers gave their bodies selflessly, for the sake of teaching, and the medical students gave them one last memorial. At age twenty-six, Wu became the youngest cadaver teacher of the Taipei Medical School’s history, before she’d died, she’d stated, “I’d rather be in pain myself, than having the doctors made the wrong incisions on someone else.”, and her words had become, the words for the medical students to take with as they’d become doctors themselves.

When Wu was just twenty-one, she was diagnosed with lupus erythematosus, her body became bloated, she’d lost strength in her hands and feet, couldn’t get her fingers to separate, and had infections all the time, in the end, she’d died because of a heart condition. Before she died, she’d told her family, that she could donate her organs, but because she’d used steroids long-term, and all she could donate were her corneas, but she’d not given up, said, “Death isn’t fearful, regrets are more feared.”, and so, she’d decided to donate her corpse, to be a “teacher without words”.

Of the seven cadaver instructors, three were college professors, one was an eighty-five year-old Wang, he’d gone with the government to Taiwan back in 1949, lived in near poverty, and he’d worked hard in his studies, became the professor of Danjiang University in the Chinese Department, and researched the beliefs of Zhuangzi, has good calligraphy penmanship. Her son, Wang said, with a lot of emotions, that before his father died, he’d hoped, that even as he’d made his exit off the stage of life, he’d wanted to use his body to teach the medical students, to use his corpse to pass the knowledge on.

and this, would be a model of a cadever body…

And so, it is, with the amazing beliefs of all of these body donors, that allowed the medical students to have the abilities to further their knowledge of the human bodies, and, hopefully, with the bodies of these amazing individuals, cures will be found one day.
