I was only eleven when I ran for the office at my school.
My homeroom teacher insisted on putting me as a candidate, simply because as the head of the class, she’d called me “too unsociable”. And so, I’d, sorta, agreed, and the people who were standing behind me, had worked on getting my name known by the rest of the school., Tiger, the art chief, used the theme of “Really Colorful” and designed the posters for me; mom’s best friend, Yao put a red cloth that has “Bo-Yen Chen at Your Service” on my shoulders. And, other than going to classes to ask for votes, I’d shaken the hands of all; but what made me most anxious was at the morning school gatherings, I’d had to stand on stage, and state my views, beliefs, and the hopes and dreams I wished to see coming true for the school in front of everybody. Being easily flustered and anxious, I’d asked my speech instructor, to help me with the entertainments for an entire afternoon; and I’d asked my friends, to surely holler out, “Vote for this GUY!”, when I’d run out of things to say to the student body.
not my photograph…
After losing a whole night of sleep, I felt so lightheaded, as my classmate ushered me onto the stage, before my eyes, the sun blinded me, and, there were, nothing but dark heads of hair underneath.
I’d taken the mic, took a deep breath in. Then, kick-started all the determination I’d carried for my entire life, spoken.
That, was the very first time I’d shown myself in front of the public.
The very first time, I’d shown my heart to the crowds, holding NOTHING back!
So, this, was a memorable thing in your earlier schooling career, isn’t it, as it must’ve been so scary, speaking in front of EVERYBODY in the school, and this, would be a unique experience that you’d once had.
