The Visually-Impaired Understand the Visually-Impaired the Most, He’d Created an App to Read the Papers, and Differentiate Between the Currency

Because this man is visually-impaired, that, was why he was able to empathize, from the Newspapers, translated…

The Systems Engineer, Chang used his own creativity, worked alongside his design team, managed to create many cell phone apps that helps the visually impaired people in the population like the “Voice Personal Assistant”, not only was the system able to help the visually impaired differentiate between the currencies from five different countries, it could also help the visually-impaired persons read the newspapers, and pick out the visually-impaired friendly restaurants, etc., etc., etc., and unexpectedly, he too, is legally blind, he’d smiled and told, that it’s because of his own visual impairments, that, was why he’d known what the visually impaired individuals needed the most of.

The forty-three-year-old Chang, from the outside, nobody could tell, that he is completely blind, he’d walked along well, and he’d used the technologies, just as you and I would.

Chang said, that as he was born, he could actually still see, in his elementary school years, the characters on the blackboards became blurred for him, but back then, he was young, and didn’t know, that something was wrong with his vision, “Because I had nobody I could compare myself to.”

Back when he was a child, he’d not known about his own visual impairments, gone to and from school on his own, and he could only manage to remember which direction he was to walk in, and would often, bump into the light poles on the roads, until in his middle school years, when he couldn’t even see the test questions, that, was when he’d realized, that he was, completely blind.

As he’d talked about this “period of darkness” in his life, Chang showed NO signs of sadness whatsoever, just said, “the unsolvable problems ARE unsolvable, so why waste my mind on it!”

In his middle school years, Chang entered into a school for visually-impaired students, and was introduced to the computers, but back then, there wasn’t a system designated for the visually impaired, and he could only memories the keyboards, and after he’d typed out the characters, his school teacher would then, read what he’d typed back to him, and, this sort of interaction had added to his interest to the computers, and it’d made him choose the information management majors as he was attending Danjiang University.

Chang said, as he’d written out the computer programs, he was just like the seeing population, but, he would still have troubles, for instance, the technologies are advancing faster and faster, and these changes came too quick, and they weren’t friendly for the visually impaired, after all, the reading speed for the visually impair is incomparable to those who can see, and there are a lot of the things that are visually-based designs, that they were hard, to be turned into verbal commands or braille, and it’d become a series of difficulties for the visually impaired.

This year, Chang worked with Chunghwa Telecommunications, and put forth the “Mobile Learning Systems for the Visually Impaired”, so the visually impaired members of the population can use sign language to go along with the recorded files as they listened to the lectures and the speeches.

So, because this man lost his sight, he’d wanted to improve the quality of life for those in the visually impaired community, and, that, was why he was able to design these computer programs that helped make the lives of the visually-impaired individuals, just as colorful and fulfilling as the lives of the seeing population.
