A tragic accident that happened over a decade ago, at the most dangerous section of the freeways here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
How many hearts had been broken on the freeway connecting Suao and Hualien already? The “Twelve Kilometers of DEATH” report on the freeway caused a lot of replies, a member of the online community recalled how twelve years ago, the fallen rocks fell onto a sedan, causing the three deaths and one injury to the Yeou family, had also, happened, on this section of the freeway; the sole survivor back then, the six-year-old little girl is now, in high school, her grandfather told, that after that accident, the family never drove that way again.
The members of the online community after reading this report, chimed in, “really, the Suao-Hualien Connecting Freeways are dangerous, I’d rather take the trains, it’s fast and safe”, there are also the local residents for Suao who’d sighed on why doesn’t the government include the passageways from the Eastern side to the Southern side of Suao into the reconstruction of the roads, that the engineering and building only done “halfway”.
In the summer of 2004, the Yeous from Yilan took along their son and daughter, drove to Hualien to sightsee, they’d not realized, that this originally could’ve been filled with great memories journey, on their way through the section of the roads, was destroyed by a huge rock that’s fallen from the cliffsides. The three ton rocks fell, onto the car, crushed the roof, and, the couple, and their young son died on the scene of the accident, only the six-year-old young girl, Yeou managed to escape death; seeing the members of her family getting killed, her face had turned white, and she couldn’t manage a word out when the rescuers came for her.
Yeou’s grandfather said, after the accident, his granddaughter had a cast on her leg, and kept hollering for her parents, that the family kept the truth from her, until the day before her mother, her father, and her younger brother’s funerals, the family recalled how she’d cried on and on, couldn’t accept the fact, that she was now, an orphan.
The family and the relatives said, that the young girl, Yeou, was left in the care of her father’s sister, and would often wake from nightmares, and, the family later on, followed the advice of a fortune teller, changed her name, and they’d not talked about the accident that killed her mother, her father, and her younger brother in front of her again.
And so, this, is a dangerous section of the roads, but, because it’s the only passage that connected the places, that, is why the roads are still driven on, and there’s NO way the government can improve the conditions, because that, is a part of the landscape.
