His Cancer-Ridden Mother Woke from the Pains in the Middle of the Nights, the Son in His Sixties Assisted Her in Committing Suicide, His Siblings Understood Why He’d Killed Their Mother, the Man Was Given Probation

Assisted suicide, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

A man, Lee, in his sixties, felt bad about how his mother who was cancer-ridden had asked him to kill her several times, two years ago, he’d strangled his mother with a cotton rope, then, attempted suicide by swallowing pills, he was resuscitated, on his first trial, the judge pointed out, that there’s no “life without the values of being alive on earth”, found him guilty of processed suicide, gave him two years, six months; the judge from the second trial believed, that Lee murdered his own mother, and his siblings all understood why he did it, and afterwards, he’d attempted to commit suicide, and he showed that he was in pain, gave him two years in prison to be served three years later.

The verdict stated, that Lee was with a master’s degree from the U.S., had taught at a university, and, at the time of the crimes, he was living in Tainan, with the foreign nurse’s aide and his mother in her eighties with cancer. Lee’s mother, because of the enormous size of her liver tumor that put pressures on her other major organs, she’d felt the stomach discomforts for a very long time, she’d even wake up in the middle of the nights, moaning and groaning of her pains, other than begging the doctors to end her life, shed’ also told her daughter-in-law and son, “just let me die”, “help set me free”.

Around midnight one day in December of last year, Lee’s mother woke from her aches and pains, told Lee, “Help set me free, allow me to die quicker”, Lee could no longer bear to hear it anymore, she’d used a cotton pair of pants, twisted it into a rope, and strangled his own mother to death, and accompanied the body until daybreak, then called to turn himself in, then, swallowed a ton of pills to kill himself, and was saved after being rushed to the hospital.

The first trial, in the Tainan District Courts, it’d pointed out, that being alive is a right protected by the constitution, and no matter how healthy or unhealthy one is physically, mentally, whether or not one feels that life is meaningless, even if it’s for someone who’d been diagnosed with something terminal, s/he is still protected by the law, and that there’s no such thing as “a life without any values”.

The judge stated, that Lee murdering his own mother is the behaviors of euthanasia, but, there’s NO laws approving of euthanasia here in Taiwan.

Lee filed for a second trial in an appeal, the Tainan High Subsidiary Court believed, that on the first trial, the judge didn’t take into affect how the siblings all showed an understanding of Lee, murdering their mother, and that they’d all signed a letter of forgiveness on his behalf, and so, it’d tossed back the original verdict.

Considering how after he killed his own mother, Lee had turned himself in, plus how he’d tried to cut his own wrist, and that he is blind in one eye, and can barely see in his other eye, he’d still done all he could, to care for his own mother until the end, that there’s no need to worry of him, murdering someone else again, he was sentenced to probation.

And here, the issue of euthanasia is discussed, the man saw how much pain his own mother was in, and plus, she’d begged him several times to kill her too, and, he’d finally done it, and, the judge took into considerations, how his intentions were to help his own mother end her miseries, that, was why the judge only gave him probation for his helping his mother die by murdering her.
