The Keelung’s Social Services Department yesterday afternoon hosted its “Empowering Women, a Ton of Energies” Carnival at the Chiao-Jing Park, the manager of the social services department, Wu said, that in the past, the women who were battered in Keelung never had a place of shelter to head to, this year, the city set up a halfway house, and had the Garden of Hope Foundation to take over, help providing battered women for a period of ninety days, the shelter is officially working tomorrow.
The mayor, Lin, lawmaker, Tsai, along with Wu, the manager of the social services branches yesterday set three pigeons free, symbolizing “Love”, “Hope”, and “Dreams”, with the balloons rising up in the air, to set off the opening.
The battered women in Keelung in the past didn’t have a formal shelter that they could head to for protection, this year, the local government had, set up a brand new halfway house, and asked the Garden of Hope Foundation to take over in managing it, the space had ten beds, and provide shelter for battered women for ninety days, and, after the police, the hospitals had, assisted in helping these women, and after getting evaluated of the situations the women were faced with by the social services department, the women are allowed, to move in, and, there are also going to be social workers who help counsel the battered women, to help them get the courts on their sides, as well as job training services too.
So, this, is a needed service and it’s finally, working, and, it’s a great big step that the people are taking, to help those who are getting abused by their spouses.
