The case of a robber, breaking and entering into a residence in Songshan twenty years ago, where he’d raped a pregnant woman, and three months later, he’d sexually assaulted two young girls, the police suspected that these two cases were committed by the same person, but for twenty years, they’d not found any leads to go on. Recently, the police reexamined the cold case evidences to match the fingerprints, and yesterday, they took the sixty-nine year-old long-time thief, Shen into custody, but he’d denied having committed the crimes, the police interrogated him the entire night, to clarify the evidences of the cases.
Based off of understanding, the police managed to get the DNA evidence from the two scenes of the crimes, as well as the suspect’s fingerprints on the lanai of the home of the pregnant woman, back then, they’d not found a match; last year, Shen who’s a repeated thief had gone to the police station to be fingerprinted, so he’s in the system, the cold case department recently reviewed the cases that hadn’t been solved yet, and found that Shen’s prints were a match to the print from the rape of the pregnant woman’s home, they’d taken his DNA from his saliva to make sure, the police hoped to solve the case before the twenty-year period statutory date is up.
The police investigated, that Shen in his earlier years had worked as a fisherman in Keelung, and when the crimes were committed, he’d worked as in ironsmith in Songshan District, and that there was a definite connection to the place where the crimes took place, and, toward how his prints showed up at the crime scene of the rape, Shen replied, “That wasn’t me”, and when the police asked him the specifics about the case, he’d claimed, “I forgot!”
The police pointed out, that in July of 1996, a burglar broke and entered through the steel window of a second floor apartment complex in Mingshen E. Road, that he seemed to be looking for something to steal, but he saw that there was just the pregnant woman who was fast asleep inside the room, he’d placed the quilts over her head and raped her. After the woman was awakened, she feared that he might do something bad to the fetus she was carrying, she’d begged, “I’ll do what you want me to, don’t hurt my baby!”, and the man managed to rape her successfully, and, he’d also taken the $9,000U.S.D.s in the residence, and then left.
On October of the same year, he’d broken into an apartment in Naking E. Road in Taipei, he saw the daughters of the owner fast asleep, he’d first, raped the younger girl who was in kindergarten back then; and the third-grade older girl heard her sister crying and woke up, and he’d attempted to rape her too, but because the older girl fought hard to escape, that, was why he wasn’t able to get his way. The very next day, the girls cried and told their parents, that, was how their parents found out about them being raped.
After the police were called, they’d found the methods these two cases to be similar, they’d suspected that it was a breaking and entering, then the opportune rape, and they suspected that these crimes were committed by the same person, they’d taken the DNA evidence, and the prints to build a case, but back then, they’d not matched the DNA and the fingerprint to anybody.
But, this is, twenty years later, and, this man had finally been caught, and, although, this is justice that came very late, but it’s still justice, and this loser still couldn’t quite make his escape, and this happened too, right as the statutory period was about to be expired!
