The right kinds of values, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
It’d made me recall, that back when the twelve years of education reform was ranting hard, as I was lecturing at the Rotary Club, back then, nearly half of the members are unsure of the reforms in education that they’d sent their kids into private institutions, and planned to send their young abroad to college, and their better halves are all very glad, that their kids are now, older.
“After all, those who go to private institutions are from well-to-do families, and so, sending the kids to private schools has a benefit, helping them establish that connection earlier on.”, as I’d heard one of the members, voiced his opinion, the host started nodding, he’d also heard, a lot of cases like this one, and, we both, sighed.
Another host of another program, as the segment was on break, spoke on his worries about Taiwan’s future, that Taiwan may well become another Hainan Island in the future, with nothing else to offer, but the tourist attractions.
“Principal, you must tell the parents you know, to train their children to have a skill, it’s more important than getting into those highly acclaimed institutions!”, I’d heard him spoke on the economics in Taiwan, as well as the hardships he foresees, facing the next generations, I’d also, let out, a deep sigh too.
After I’d returned home, I’d started talking with my classmate, he has two daughters, they are very, well-rounded, and so, they’d gotten the praises of their bosses, and, although their coworkers are jealous of them, but his daughter consoled him, that if after introspecting, she’d found that she could do something better, and, if she’d done her work duties perfectly, she won’t get beaten, and handed him the book, “The Hated on Courage” for him, told him to relax.
I’d commended my classmate’s children for being outstanding in the workforce, how they’d not paled by comparisons to those out of private schools. He’d laughed, “in educating, character is more important, not trying to connect to others! And, if the connections were built, are from the second or third generations of the rich and well to do, then, what’s the worth of these sorts of connection!”
I’d recalled how when I’d gotten invited to lecture, the dean of student affairs would accompany me to the lecture halls, and, the students we’d bumped into hadn’t said a hello to us, he saw how shocked I was, staring at these kids that just, passed us by, he’d stated, “They’re all, from well-to-do families, so, they’re all, high and mighty, don’t expect a hello from them.” I’d opened up my eyes wider after I’d heard him told me.
not my “poster”…
The education of children, should not be separated by how rich or poor the families are, the disciplines of the student, how good a character they have is the main determinant of how successful they will be in life, and, working in business or in the workforce, you may need that connection, sure, but, if you lacked the abilities, or had bad characters, you’d still get, eliminated soon enough.
“Certainly! Rather than chasing after the established connections, set up a good character is more important; and rather than chasing that halo from a highly acclaimed school, why not work hard, and learn a life skill instead.” My classmate told me, that his children didn’t want to take over his business, and that as they’d searched for their separate jobs, they’d not used any connections from their father’s generation either.
“As a retired teacher from a public school, you must feel animosity toward the private institutions, right?”, my classmate joked, I’d smiled and told him that he’d looked too much into it, that there are, pros and cons with public AND private schools, that the parents are considering which one to send their kids to, based off of their different considerations too, it’s not about good or bad. It’s just, that considering the education, it should be from multiple angles, instead of on those weakly established connections.
“Getting the best of abilities IS the best way to establish the most well-rounded kind of connections!”, after I’d finished stating this, my classmate laughed aloud, “No need to chase after the name brands, you are, the name brand, isn’t that what you’d told your daughter?”
not my picture still…
Yeah! Having your children chasing after the name brands, the connections, instead, helping them become, the name brands, and the connections that people want to have!
So, this shows how important it is, to have a viable skill, because it doesn’t matter how connected you are, you can be the child of a CEO of a Fortune 500, but hey, what shines through on those résumés are the working experiences, as well as the character values that you have…
