A Frequent Visitor to the Emergency Rooms

Translated…

This is the very time, the whole family flew back to Taiwan, since Nala was born, at just five-months of age, perhaps, it’s the long plane ride, in the first few days, as we’d gone to visit with friends and families, she’d started having some conditions. Redness started appearing around her eyes, making her even weaker and fatigued, completely different from how active, how upbeat she was on the flight. And now, we saw her, sitting quietly, on her car seat, with this sense of lethargy, looking out at the window, at the unchanging sceneries, sleepy, and tired easily, but, she’s not crying, getting fussy, nor is she sleeping, and, there would be, thick snots coming out of her nose, or she’d coughed, dryly a couple of times every now and then. At first, we took it to be the air, the environmental changes that’s caused her young body to not adapt well enough, until Nala’s body started, heating up, and that, was when we’d realized, that all of the signs from before, were the symptoms of a cold.

not my photograph…

After we’d finally arrived in Taipei, it was, a couple of hours since the symptoms started showing, and we ran, straight, into the emergency room, the medical staff followed the standard procedures, weighed her, took her temperature, also, drew her blood, to make sure that it wasn’t due to a viral infection. Then, the nurse gave her a serving of meds to get her fevers down by syringe, and before we left, the doctor prescribed three-days’ worth of medication for her.

The nights we’d needed to, rush Nala into the emergency rooms, stopped when she was nine months old. And, Nala may not have been born weak at all, or that maybe, we’d gone with the logic of getting sick and needing meds. Until the experiences we had in Norway, we’d gotten a wake up call from the doctors there, because of the methods of raising the young being different than how the culture of the Chinese community does it. You may have to use a gun to force a doctor in Norway to write a prescription for a child, and s/he would still be unwilling. Naturally, the normal biological functions that can get back to normal with more rest, more water intake, why would there be an excess of chemical interferences, and that would reduce the ability for the human bodies to heal itself naturally.

not my photograph still…

And this, is the thing with the first-time parents, because it’s all new to you guys, you’d started, fretting over the smallest stuff, when your infant child start burping (which is a NORMAL biological function, to get rid of the extra air inside the systems???), you’d wondered, if your kid is getting sick, and, when the kid starts to sneeze, you start questioning if s/he is getting a cold, when it just might be how the nose reacts to the colder temperatures inside the house when you wake up, out of that warmth of your huddled in covers.
