Lai who’s a sophomore of the tourism management majors of Chianan Pharmacology Technical University said, the family of six and her aunt had lived in the Wei=Guan Golden Dragon building for sixteen years, and, as the earthquake occurred, she was interning at the hotel in Taichung, and that during the holidays, the work was busy, she couldn’t make it home to be with her family on New Year’s, not knowing, that not taking the opportunity to head home to be with her family was goodbye, she’d waited at the areas that were hit, for three days, and she’d gotten the icy, cold corpses of her parents, of her older sister, third younger sister, and her youngest brother’s bodies.
Guan-Rong Lai held back her sorrows and identified her youngest brother’s corpse, she’d told, “Now I only hope, that my parents and other members of my family can live happily in heaven, especially, Bo-An would need more looking after, after all, Bo-An was still a kid, only a teenager.”
The father’s eldest brother said, his younger brother had worked in Chubei for long-term, is a construction worker who’d tied up the steel rods, because there are a lot of kids in the house, and it’d cost a lot to rent, they’d considered that Wei-Guan Golden Dragon had cheap properties, so the Lais bought two apartments in the community, but the buildings couldn’t withstand the shakes from the earthquakes, the dreams of living in the same community together is now, shattered.
He said, that in the household, there were still his sister-in-law’s mother, Chen, her younger sister, Hsu, the two children who’d not been found yet, the younger sister-in-law was a great cook, took care of the foods for the New Year’s Eve meals, that his younger brother’s family had gone home on the day before New Year’s Eve to Chiayi, “I can’t believe, that I will NEVER get to savor my sister-in-law’s cooking again.”

After the earthquake, their eighty-five year-old elderly father still kept asking, “How come the third hadn’t arrived home yet”, they’d kept making up excuses, to keep the father from knowing the truth of the son’s death, but in the end, the father still saw the news on television, and was heartbroken.
Lai’s eldest brother said, that the roads in the future is still very long, that even if the aunt and uncles have the mind and the heart, they wouldn’t know where to begin to care, to assist them, he’d hoped the government can chip in, to help Guan-Rong Lai finish her studies.
And so, this earthquake had, destroyed ANOTHER family, and only the daughter who goes to school away is alive, and, this is tragic, and, in natural disasters like this, you just can’t tell how many will make it, you can only pray, that your loved ones are safe and sound, but, as the bodies get dug up one by one………
