The fifty-one year old man, Lin, because of his drug possessions, he was serving a five-year sentence, his ninety-one year-old elderly father would ride his motorcycle for an hour to the Kaohsiung penitentiary to visit him, told him to “behave yourself more, and don’t make me worry about you.”  Lin was finally moved by his father who’d served in the army as an officer finally, and yesterday when the families of the inmates were allowed to go visit, he’d promised his father, “I will, make a better new start for myself!”

Yesterday the Kaohsiung penitentiary held it’s family meetings, Lin and his father had shared some time together.  Lin said, when he was growing up, he felt that his father who was an army officer was very strict, and he’d feared him very much; in his five years in jail, his father was the only one who’d visited him, each and every month, his father had taken his favorite foods to him, rode from Nanzi to Daliao to see him, he was extremely grateful that his father never gave up on him.

Lin said, his father is able-bodied, but his legs had deteriorated, and had difficulties getting around.  And now, they are all each other has, there is, NO other relatives, he’d written his father a letter every ten days, hoped to be released early, so he could take care of his father; yesterday, at the gathering of the inmates and their families, Lin massaged his father’s shoulders, made his father felt warm.

Lin said,, he had oral cancer, and colon cancer too, in the past year, he’d been hospitalized for heart conditions twice, he wasn’t too confident about his own health conditions, “If I can walk out of here alive, I would really loved to take care of my father.”

The man overseeing the jail said, that Lin is on good behaviors in prison, he’d loved to read, and wrote very well too, and wrote his father, “you must wait until I’m home again.”  Lin’s father is hard of hearing, covered with white hair, walked slowly, but, he’d not wanted his son to have the hardships to weather, he’d rode his motorcycle to visit him and brought him food, and a couple of thousand dollars for his son to use at a time.

So, this father’s love had made a difference to this son who’s serving time, and that just shows, how the love of a parent can perform magic, it’d turned this man into hardworking, studious, because he’d wanted to finish serving his time, and take care of his elderly father.
