Life, the Obstacle Course

Can I Even Ask, a Letter to You

Translated…

It’d become, routine, me sending you a happy New Year card every year, after I’d written down all those words of well-wishes, I’d felt, it wasn’t, quite enough, but as I recalled that sorrowful look in your eyes, I’d, stopped my pen, because no matter how many questions I’d asked, you’d become, deaf and dumb, pretending you don’t see, and would say, that I’d, butted in too much.

not my photograph…

It isn’t that I want to tell you how to live your life, it’s just that we’d been best friends for so very long, and I’m merely, showing my care and concerns toward you is all.  A few months after your wedding, I’d gotten that phone call when you’d cried so hard, “Do you know, that I’d married an already married man, with a child already, and, I’d found that out as I was, flipping through the pages of the household registry!  I was, so god DAMN naïve, the man lying next to me is someone else’s husband, and I’m already pregnant, what, do I do?”, I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say to you, but, as I was about to say something comforting, you’d, let out a high-pitched yelp, then, hung up the phone, cut off contact.  When we’d gotten reconnected, it’d been so many years, and, your original openness, optimism, already gone, and, you’d always start by saying, “It still hurt a lot, don’t ask, let’s talk about something more current.”, then, you’d, rushed to the home that you had in the eastern side to hide out again.

As a brand new year approaches, can I ask, “Are you, feeling better now?”

And so, this woman clearly needed the time, to sort through her own emotions, with absolutely NO one else’s input on the matter, and, it must’ve been a HUGE shock to her, to find out, that the man she’s married to is already married, with children too, imagine that you are in the same situation, wouldn’t you want your friends, and families, to just SHUT up on handing out those unsolicited advice, and let you just BE, so you can, sort through everything, piece by piece?  That, is what this woman needed…
