A skilled worker, Jiang and his wife Hsu had been married for six years, after Jiang got drunk, he’d often become physically abusive toward his own wife, after he got drunk yesterday, he’d gone home, and started beating on his wife with the wooden end of a hammer once more, the wife couldn’t put up with the long-term abuse any longer, she’d slipped some sleeping pills into his chicken soup, after he’d fallen asleep, she then smothered him to death with the quilt. The police investigated, that at two in the morning yesterday, after Jiang got drunk and returned home, he’d once again, picked up the wooden hammer and started beating on Hsu again, afterwards, he’d told Hsu to make him some chicken soup, Hsu was upset, and as she was making the chicken soup, she’d taken out ten tablets of the sleeping pills her husband was prescribed long-term, grinded it down, added it into the chicken soup, Jiang was still hungry, and Hsu cooked the remaining chicken soup with instant noodle, and added in the rest of the grounded sleeping pills, after Jiang fell asleep after eating, Hsu covered his mouth and nose with the quilt, then, use her entire body weight, suffocated him, after some struggles, she’d managed to, kill him.
Hsu told the police, that back then, she’d lost her sanity, and what drove her to smother her husband to death with the quilt was from ALL the years of anger and resentment she’d held in, she’d suffocated him for about five minutes, and saw that he wasn’t moving, she’d sat, dumbfounded, by his side until the morning light, and waited until she’d gathered herself together, she’d called the police and turned herself in.
As the police arrived, they’d found Jiang on the bed, already dead, and the two young children had no idea that their father was dead, they’d sat beside him, playing on the cell phones, and, the children asked, “Where’s daddy?”, and didn’t know that their father had been murdered.
The assistant director of the Changhwa Social Services Department, Wang said, that Jiang worked as a skilled worker, and most, he’d made $30,000N.T. a month, and the family was listed as lower income households, that every time he’d had a hard time at work, he’d gone home and gotten drunk, and afterwards, he’d thrown things, and beaten Hsu up, and Hsu discovered that her younger son had become like his father, when he’d gotten angry, he’d thrown things too, and made up her mind about leaving him, two years ago, she’d called in to request some assistance.
Wang said, because she’d wanted to keep her marriage intact, Hsu had never applied for a restraining order, and although the social workers had gone to visit often, but they were able to prevent this tragedy, they will use this particular case to see if they can improve their methods of approach, to prevent future occurrences. As for the two young children, they will be placed by the Social Services.
Yeah, imagine how much this woman must’ve put up, for her, to smother her own husband to death, can you imagine how much pains and sufferings she’d endured, before she finally CRACKED? And no, I’m still NOT advocating murdering one’s abusive spouse here, I’m just saying, that had someone stepped in, to give this woman the assistance she’d needed, then, all of this could’ve been prevented, but it wasn’t, so, what does that tell you??? That there are still many flaws, in the way the systems work………
