And now, studies had proven, that reading to your young IS beneficial to them!!! From the Front Page Sections, translated…
I’d attended a summit conference on reading in the U.S recently, and, it’d given me a brand new perspective on promoting reading.
The neuroscientist saw the importance of how reading can kick-start the accumulation of wisdom in children in the brain, and, the deaf students who’d learned sign language, compared with the deaf students who’d just started learning sign language upon entry into schools compared to the children who were exposed to sign language earlier at home, showed great gaps in scholastic performances. The countries with population that is made up of illiterates are poor, and thus, couldn’t have the money for medical treatments and the medicines they needed, and the lifespan of the population in these countries are about half of the more advanced nations, and the average age of the Taiwanese people is eighty, while the average age of people in nations in Africa is only fifty. And, you wouldn’t believe it until you see the numbers, that literacy is not only the fundamental building blocks for a nation’s wellbeing, it also greatly, affected the lifespan of the people in that nation too, and, reading had, become the standards of civilized societies.
But, the places that needed the literacy educations are having the most difficulties getting it, because the parents are illiterates, they couldn’t read to their young, they’d gotten used to handing the responsibilities of educating their children to the school instructors (sending you to school, is for your teachers to teach you how to read), and this wrong belief can and will, delay the cognitive development of the child’s brain. In order to overcome this misbelief, nations such as Finland, Spain, and the U.S. set up teams of researchers to the tribal regions in the Amazons, as well as in Africa, and used the forces of the sanitary stations, with the assistance of the nurses, as well as the doctors, to push forth the values of reading.
And, there are also, parents who’d gone to the urban regions to work in Taiwan, and the problems of the cross-generation caretaking, of how the older generations can’t read posed a huge problem. And, we can borrow the experiences from abroad. The researchers from foreign nations found, that young children needed to get their inoculations, their shots, and so, naturally, the doctors, as well as the nurses would get into contact with the children, and, the words of the doctors are mostly influential, so, the researchers would ask the doctors to tell the grandparents, “these shots can keep your grandchild healthy, and this bag of books can make her/him smarter, you must, bring it home for your grandchild to read, the books are made of cloth, won’t get torn, it’s okay if s/he plays with it. There are only pictures and no words inside these books, so, you need not fear, that you can’t read, just make up stories, to tell your grandchild from what you see, anyway you like, but, you must, talk with the child. The next time you bring her/him to get her/his shots, I will, give you more books to take home that’s fitting to her/his age and development.”
And the results showed, that this works, because as the elderly tell the stories, they would, incorporate their life experiences into it, and, the children from the tribes needed the real-life experiences the most, and, the wisdoms of the forefathers are, especially important in these distant tribal areas, when the children has the psyche to absorb the information, reading the words that were printed comes much easier to them.
And this just showed, how important reading to the young children is, for their development, because by reading to your young, you’re stimulating those neurons, and, as those neurons get stimulated, they’d form the connections to each other, and, as anybody who knows anything will tell you, the better connected the neurons are the better, and besides, reading stories to your children may be the ONLY time during the day when you can, relax, and, life is stressful enough as is, and, we ALL need to have some relaxations in our lives.
