The implementing of the systems, well, it just, never quite catches up to the speed of how things are going, does it??? Of course N-O-T!!! From the Front Page Sections, translated…
The UDN Papers did a survey with 7-11, the results showed, that in the speeding up of the how people are living longer, the younger generations seemed to be ambiguous about the problems surrounding it. There are, several reasons for this, one of them being the rapidity of aging is hitting Taiwan at a very high speed, that even the middle-aged generations hadn’t realized the extent of the seriousness of it yet; if the society is to become more aware of the situation, then, the process should be built on the forefront of understanding and tolerance, in the interactions, and, in order for this to be accomplished, the government’s visions as well as the progressions of the society are the key factors, then, we will be able to, move forward toward an era where there are constructions to help the aging population, blending in, getting along with the younger generations.
The country with the longest aging procession is France, over a span of a hundred years; the fastest currently is Japan, with only twenty-four years; and, it’s possible, that Taiwan may turn into the world’s first in the next one or two years. The speed of aging is measured by the percentage of the elderly population taking over seven to fourteen percent of the entire population, and this is not just a combination of numbers, it also meant, that during this time, the society can get prepared, to learn, to set up, and construct the needed systems.
and no, not my graph…
Some, including the UDN Papers Series discussion forum had already sounded the warning and the seriousness of this matter, it isn’t just about the blending in of the generations, there are also issues on long-term care, medical treatment requirements, lack of economical ability, along with other serious matters, this is why if we don’t pay enough heed to the matter of long-term care, it would, cause the society great stress, and, if we don’t plan out the plans to care of the aging population, this will become, a matter of national security.
Based off of this survey, eighty-two percent of surveyed stated that the reason why they can’t visit their aging elders is because of how far they lived from their aging family members. And even as the families got together, eighty-six to eighty-seven percent believed that the elders didn’t need to be looked after, and, over fifty percent who interacted with the elders by watching television with them and sharing a meal with them.
This, is how when the psychological distance became greater than the physical distance, even if the family members all lived under the same roofs, they’d rarely shared a conversation in a week’s time, and, are the elderly population understanding, of their children’s needs, and will to listen to them talk about the stresses from work, and, do the children understand that sense of loneliness and that emptiness that the parents are feeling, and willing to put in the time, to show their cares and concerns to them, how, can we use empathy, with the visual communication means, as well as the transportation means, to establish a new way that we interacted with one another in the family, this, should be, an important topic to discuss for the families, as well as for the society too.
Only through the exertion of the strength of the families, will the pressures of the aging population be reduced in the society, with the self-sustaining families getting set up, with the helps from the community, then, we will be able to, reduce the issues that are being created by the growth of the aging population.
here’s the “trend”, in a “visual”…

And so, this, is advocating how the younger generations should take care of their aging parents, but hey, the younger generation has to work during the workweek, and the only time they have off are on the weekends and holidays, and, some of the members of the working class are also putting what they can, to spend more time with their aging parents, but, it’s just, not quite enough, because aging, growing older, is something we ALL can’t avoid, and, I’m still not saying, that we should rely on the government to take care of all of that either!
