Their Twelve Years of Marriage Had Been Invalid, as They’d Only Celebrated Their Union with Their Neighbors

A man, Ling in high school, as he was playing an online game, fell madly in love with a recently divorced, with a five-year-old daughter woman, Liu, right after Ling graduated from high school, he’d moved up north, moved in with the woman, and had a son with her.  Ten years later, Ling fell in love with another woman, they’d once signed the divorce papers, but, Liu believed, that there was something wrong with the procedures of their marriage, and the courts found her to have won; Ling fought back, mentioned how back when they got together, they didn’t have any witnesses, didn’t hold a banquet, and so, the Shihlin District Court found their marriage to be invalid.

Ling (age 32) had two sons with Liu, in 2003, Liu was pregnant, they married because of their son.  In 2013, they’d started arguing a lot, and Ling prepared a divorce settlement paper, with already a witness signed, asked Liu to sign it, the moment Liu signed, Ling immediately took it to the land offices to file for the divorce.  Liu regretted having signed the papers, stated that she never saw the witness, asked the Shihlin Courts to confirm the marriage.  The judge believed, that the two witnesses never asked if Liu wanted to divorce and signed the statements, that the divorce was, invalid.

Ling saw that he wasn’t successful in getting his divorce, he’d claimed that his marriage with Liu was annulled.  Ling stated, that before he was twenty, he’d had a son with the woman he’d met online the two of them went to the Household Registration Offices located in Xinyi District to register for marriage, but the official told him, that he’d needed his “legal guardians to sign off on it”, they’d forged their parents’ signatures, and stamped both their parents’ seals on the document.  Ling told, that even the paperwork of their marriage, Liu had written herself, their eldest son was born on June fifth that year, and, he’d lied that they were married on April 5^th, and falsified that they’d had a banquet on that day at a hotel.  The judge believed, that the two were married, before the amendment in 2007, that unless the rituals were performed, then it wouldn’t have counted, and that “banquet” was merely, the get-together of the neighbors, having chit-chats, and the toast was out of “courtesy”, that their twelve years of marriage was, invalid.

Wow, and see how much troubles those people go through to prove that they weren’t married in the first place?  And, you still have to wonder, what happened to the love?  Well, it’d become, nonexistent, or rather, it never actually, existed, it was, an infatuation that ended, in an invalid marriage, it was, like a game to them.
