Accidental deaths, due to the carelessness, the neglect, of the caretakers here, from the Newspapers, translated…
There was, two accidental infant deaths in the district of Banciao of Hsinbei City yesterday. The infant boy, Chang who was born, only ten days ago, was suspected of having suffered sudden infant death syndrome because he was sleeping on his stomach, he was rushed to the hospitals, and after emergency resuscitation, he’d regained his heartrate; another eight-month old baby boy, Wu, was also suspected of being suffocated and rushed to the hospital, after resuscitation, he still died.
The nanny, Chen stated that yesterday morning at around six, after she’d fed Chang, the infant his bottle, she’d placed him down on his sides to sleep, but, as she’d returned to the infant’s side by a little past nine, the infant boy had flipped onto his stomach, she realized that he wasn’t breathing, she’d immediately dialed the fire department, after the paramedics rushed the infant to the hospital, his vital signs are stabilized, currently, he’s in the hospital for observation.
In within four hours, another nursing center in Banciao had also had the incident of an eight-month old infant, Wu, who was also, rushed to the hospital because of asphyxiation, after emergency resuscitation however, he’d died. The nursing center told, that at eleven in the morn, the infant boy was fed some rice gruel, at twelve, they’d given him the formula provided by the mother, burped, and, put down for his nap by 12:30.
At two in the afternoon, the infant boy cried for the third time, and the nursing care staff checked on him, at 2:30 in the afternoon, as they’d changed Wu’s diapers, they’d found his hands and feet turned black, vomit by his bed, they’d immediately rushed him to the hospital, but, it was, already too late.
The Hsinbei Social Services Department told, that this nursing center had been operating for eight years to date, with no record of violations of any kind, and after the incident, the center had, immediately reported it, the Social Services Department will investigated, if it was neglect by the nursing center, then, a deadline for change will be given, and there would be a fine of between $60,000 and $300,000N.T.s, and the responsibility of the caretaker of this young child will be investigated by the police and district attorney’s office.
The Asian Eastern Hospital’s neonatal department head, Liang stated, that most infants who’d died of unknown causes fall under the category of “Sudden Infant Death Syndrome”, and it’s most prevalent in infants of two to three months of age, and, the risk factors include secondhand smoke, premature birth, congenital birth defects. He’d suggested that the infants be put to bed on their backs, the bed should be flat and not too soft, that there should be no stuffed toys, or pillows on it. In the winters, the parents can turn on the heaters, and just have a thin cover, to prevent suffocation by the heavier quilts.
And so, here’s one death, and one near-death, and, it’s still due to the carelessness of the caretakers, because these caretakers aren’t paying enough attention to the children they’re looking after, that, was why these incidents happened, and education of the nursing staff is definitely, also, necessary here too.
