The Sunny Elementary School Cancelled the Grades of the Perfect Score of 100

From the Front Page Sections, translated…

The learning spectrum now, not only the elementary school students cared about the grades they’re making, there would even be, parents who’d grilled the instructors, “Why did my child not have the extra point?”, the expert pointed out, that learning should be focused on whether or not the students are “getting the material”, and, being fixated on the scores does not help the child grow.

The assistant professor from the education majors, Bai said, overly emphasizing the scores, can cause the children to become too competitive, they would easily, compare themselves to one another, and feel superior or inferior.  In reality, some of the students just needed more time to learn, and the sectional exams happen once a month on average, and, these children would have a difficult time, to make a good grade, if the parents aren’t so fixated on the grades, then, the children may have the chance, to breakthrough and fulfill themselves.

Bai believed, that rather than giving the students a determining score, why not, give them the scores on their learning processes.  The normal exams are focused on the end results, which makes the hard work of the students hard to see, she’d suggested that the instructors can give the students encouraging grades or grades for performing better, giving positive reinforcement is “you’d done better by ten points from the last time” can help the children mature, and they’d be more, willing, to work harder.

“Why did you get this wrong?”, the Chinese instructor, Yo from Sunny Elementary, after the evaluations, took the students, to understand why they’d gotten the test questions wrong.  Some of the students told her, “I was too careless”, and some had introspected, “I should’ve looked up the words in the dictionary more often”; she said, so long as the students can come up with their own ways to make improvements, and to resolve their own problems, then, the kids are slowly, trained, to become responsible for their own behaviors.

And so, this, is how you go about, training the kids, to take responsibilities for themselves, making them realize what they’d done wrong on tests, instead of just, focusing on that score, written in red, circled, by the classroom instructors, and, this way of instructing is going to make the students learn how to realize what they’d done wrong on their own, so they’d be careful the next time around, to not make the same mistakes again.
