Children, Abandoned

The deserting of one’s own pets, translated…

Head was abandoned, at a super convenience shop in Nanzhuang, Miaoli, he looked sorrowful, sat outside the shops in silence, and, his sense of existence had, be reduced, to the most miniscule.

not my photo…

Perhaps, it’s to console himself, that maybe, his parents just forgot about him, not that they didn’t want him anymore, Heads would gaze through the glass panes of the shop windows, to see the customers go to and fro, and would, from time to time, glue his eyes, to the passing cars, fearing, that he might, miss any chance of going home.

The store clerks also started knowing this, “child” who’d appeared, out of the blue, it’s been, a couple of days, and his parents still, hadn’t, come and look for him yet.  He’s not one with a cold hard, he has children at home himself, he’d not wanted to, chasing him away, or give the city a call to have Heads taken away, and would give foods to Heads to eat every single day.

still not my photo…

So many kids are, afraid of the dark, but Heads, who waited, in the darkness of the nights, have NO right for his fears, this, is the last place he was, separated from his parents.

One day, he finally couldn’t take it anymore, tried walking home himself, it took him, five days, then, he’d, returned, back here again.  That particular adventure had left him, weakened even more, and he couldn’t, manage, to eat any food at all.

nope, still didn’t take this one either!

The next day, a couple of men came, gently, carried Heads onto a car, took him to the hospitals in Taichung, and that, was when they’d learned, that Heads was, seriously ill.  But his conditions were, treatable, the people who’d saved him started discussing, they’d not feel comfortable, sending him, into a “group home”, a place, where all the kids who’d lost their families go to be kept, it wasn’t, ideal at all, the most ideal home for a child is one with loving parents, and a home.

Luckily, there was, a young couple who’d noticed Heads, and took a special leave of absence from their offices, and went to the hospital to visit him, they’d not, cared, too much about his conditions at all, and, very shortly, they’d, decided, to take this child into their home.  Last year, on Christmas Eve, Heads was finally, able to, sleep, comfortably, on his new parents’ bed.

There were, abandoned children everywhere.  Two weeks ago, on the streets in Taipei, there were, two kids, wandering on the streets, they had a shared trait, around both their necks were, two small, red satchels, wrapped around tightly, with the red tapes, but unfortunately, that was, not the red envelope for the blessings for the brand new year at all, it was, the red envelope, of abandonment.

There were, a thousand dollars in each of the red envelopes, the names, age, personality, health conditions were written, all over the red envelopes, but, the only thing missing on the red envelopes were, the information of their homes.

These two children who aren’t at all, afraid of strangers, heard other people read the writings on the red envelopes aloud, without any reactions, just opened up their round eyes wide, and their eyes drifted from place to place, because of how anxious they were.  The red envelopes stood out, and, the thousand-dollar bill should be, light as a feather, but now, it’d become, very heavy.

Last week, on the way to Luti Pet Park, I saw, a child, crying, the cries came on and off, there weren’t parents close by, and, when he’d brought enough attention to himself, he’d, gotten up, slowly, walked off, turned toward the other corner of the riverside, and started, crying again, he’d switched a couple of places, and, I’d not heard him anymore, but I know, he’s still, crying.

If you’d lost, a black, strong dog, with a big head, you can choose, to forget about him, because you’re not, fit, to care about the new life you’d imposed onto him.  If, you were the one, to put those red envelopes around the necks of those two black dogs, they’re still, waiting for you, to regret your actions, waiting for you, to turn your regrets, back into love again.  If you’d lost a black dog, with hints of grays by the riverbanks of Luzhou, the dog is still there, and, his cries, still nonstop.

And yet, can you imagine, how CRUEL these owners are?  They’d toss their pets away, as if, they were, TRASH, for whatever reasons there may be, perhaps, they’d grown too big, or that the owners thought they were going to stay small (like those smaller breeds) when they took them home, who knows?  But, know this, dogs DO feel, and, imagine how you’d feel, to be, abandoned by someone you love, then, maybe, it would, prevent you, from taking your pets away from home, and just, DUMP them by the side of the roads!
