She Doesn’t Look Like That Anymore

She doesn’t look like that anymore, he thought to herself, with the photo of his baby girl in his hand…

She doesn’t look like that anymore, oh no, the innocence is already lost there, and now, she appears, in heavy makeup, dyed her hair too, she’s no longer, that child that begged for “just another bedtime story, daddy!” anymore.

She doesn’t look like that anymore, time had done its magic trick on her life, she’d aged, overnight, it seems.  Since the passing of her beloved, there’s that scent of gloom, that drapes over her life there, and, she just, couldn’t quite, shake it off of her now.

She doesn’t look like that anymore, oh no, there’s something about her that’s quite different, and yet, you’d sensed, that yearning, that desire, to keep on, being her same, old self too, and the two contrasts are, still playing, that NO-WIN game of tug-of-war with her life.
