The thirty-one year-old divorced woman, Chang and her four-year-old son this June, moved back in with her ex, Chiu; Chang is Chiu’s second wife. A few days ago, when Chiu went to Pingdong, to handle the court case between his son from his first marriage, Chang left a note, “With them around, I’ll always be an outsider”, early yesterday morning, she was suspected of burning charcoal in her own bedroom, her son died, and Chang fell into a coma, and was admitted to the ICU, is in critical condition.
Chang’s family told, that recently, Chang showed NO signs of being suicidal, they weren’t clear, as to why she’d burned the charcoal. Chiu stated, that before he left the house, he’d gotten into a spat with Chang, and suspected that she had tried, overdosing their son, and because the son suffocated from the smoke, and that, was why he’d not waken up and called out for help. The D.A. examined the child’s body, and believed that he’d died of carbon monoxide poisoning, didn’t show any signs of struggle, they will set aside a date in the future to perform an autopsy, and see if Chang was responsible for murder, or assisted suicide.
The officers investigated, that after Chiu who operated the motorcycle shop got divorced, he’d married Chang, who was ten years junior to him, and, they’d gotten divorced too. Chang took her son back to her own home in Changhwa to live with her parents, and because Chiu told her he’d wanted to get back together, this June, she’d moved back in to Chiu’s mansion with him again.
Chiu’s son from his previous marriage was due in court because he was hurt, two days ago, Chiu told Chang, that he was headed south, to handle the matter, and that had, caused tension between them.
Yesterday early at around midnight, Chang used a communications app, told her mother, “You’d raised me in this lifetime, I’m grateful, but, I’m just, useless, giving you troubles………I’m, so very sorry”, Chang immediately told her son to go to Chiu’s place to check, but, as her son arrived, the front doors are locked, and, nobody was answering the door.
The police, the fire department arrived on scene, they entered through the second story window, saw that fire was still burning inside, and Chang had fallen to the floor, with her son, lying in bed, the paramedics immediately rushed them both to the hospital, the child died, and Chang was in critical condition. The police found two notes in the bedroom with “I will, return all the pains back to you”, “with them around, I’ll always be an outsider”, as her final words.
Chang’s father told, that before his daughter got divorced, she was beaten, and filed for a restraining order against him before they finalized their divorce. Returning back to Chiu’s side, she’d needed to take care of his shop, also, to care for the children, life was hard; he’d once, consoled her, to not go back, but she wouldn’t listen.
And so, this woman had chosen the way out by killing herself, and her son, it’s still, how she felt, that there was no way out, and she must’ve felt desperate and trapped, that, would be why she’d attempted to kill herself, and took her son with her too.
