The ins and outs of the world here, translated…
Awhile ago, I’d taken my wife and daughter, to the town, Huwei, the town, fifteen kilometers from where we lived, to buy a pair of shoes for my youngest. In that newly opened up wholesale store, there was, a huge crowd, plus, the huge discount on the shoes on display on the shelves, made me dizzy.
nope, not my drawing…
My wife took the shoes she and my youngest daughter picked out, came over, told me, “I saw a lot of the migrant workers, with the cut up pieces of their children’s sizes, measuring, it’s really amazing. Go over and take a look, they’d told their families from abroad, to send them the sizes of their loved ones, and, they’d put a lot into picking and choosing over the various styles and prices, for the sake, of doing what one can, as a father…”, so, I took a few steps, and saw, a couple darker complexion young men, with a cut out piece of cardboard in hand, picking up the children’s shoes to me3asure.
They’d gone away from home, for the sake, of finding a job, to help support the families, other than buying their own daily living necessities, they’d still think about their young children who are far away, how deep their love is for their offspring? That also reminded of how in the earlier times, when Asian people floated overseas, to set up a career, how they must’ve been discriminated against; those who were blessed made it in their business ventures, and those who weren’t blessed, died, in a foreign place, it’d sent, chills down my spine.
Recalling how I was back then, left home, with my fellow locals of Yunlin, for the sake, of putting food on the tables, how much storms we’d all weathered, becoming, the bottom of the food chains, and, how many actually got to make their parents proud? And now, the wheels of fate turned, the influxes of migrated workers, rushing into Taiwan, is it, a blessing, or a curse? I’d, walked out of the shoe store with my wife and daughter, feeling, a mixture of emotions.
not my photograph still…
And so, this, is the feelings that came, from observing the world around, and, those migrant workers are working very hard, to send every single cent possible, back home, so their kids could get a better education, and, they’re all, working, to make sure, that their kids will have it better than they had, and that just showed, the dedication and the love these foreign workers have for their young.
