The teenage years, well, they’re NEVER easy!!! From the Front Page Sections, translated…
A first year high school student, Huang, from a certain public high school in the city of Taichung, yesterday around noon, called his father to tell him “I’m sorry”, he’d taken a leap to his own death, the classmates told, that at lunch, they didn’t feel, that Huang was depressed or upset, and, all of a sudden, he’d, flipped over the fifth floor walls, and, it’d caught everybody off guard.
Huang’s family lived in Nantou, he’d lived in the dorms, and only on weekends, would he head home. His grades are mid-range to high, and, has a normal school life and interpersonal relationships with his classmates and instructors, without records of going to see the school counselor, and why was he depressed? Both the school, and the parents can’t figure it out.
Huang’s father pointed out, that at noon, his son called him on his cell a couple of times, but, because he was in the mountainous region, without good reception, he didn’t get to talk with him, on the very last call that he’d picked up, his son left a “I’m sorry”, then, hung up, he’d dialed his son back, but, his son had turned the cell phone off, he felt that “something was wrong!”, drove fast to Taichung, and, on his way to his son’s school, he’d gotten the call, that his son had fallen off of the school building in an accident.
Huang’s father rushed to the hospital, held his son’s hands tightly, not believing, that he would commit suicide, he was so overcome with sorrow. The secretary of the school, Hsu stated, that the witnessing students had tried to pull Huang back, but it was so sudden, and too late, Huang had a normal routine and interpersonal relations at school, and, before he took the leap, he’d shown NO signs of distress either.
Hsu stated, that the sectional exams were just finished, but the answers were posted, not the grades yet, he couldn’t be certain, that the student’s suicide has anything to do with grades. The school counselor’s office is already counseling the students in his class, to help the students understand what had happened to their classmate.
And so, this high schooler’s suicide is still caused by a combination of factors, but, we have NO idea of what those factors are now, as the only one who can answer that question had died already, and, this still just shows, how well teens can hide themselves, they can mask themselves up as feeling all right, keep the world outside of what’s going on with them internally, and that, is why these teenage suicides are usually, the hardest to prevent.
